Regional Vice President,General Manager

Location General Manager
An individual in this position is responsible for the overall operation of a specific CarMax location. Responsibilities include driving sales in a $60-150 million + store, full P & L accountability, managing 75-300+ associates per store, process management, hiring/training/development of associates and asset management/inventory control.

Requirements include 5+ years of General Management or Multi-Unit Management experience in a "big box" environment, previous P & L responsibility ($30-50 million preferred) and management of associates in excess of 50. This position is filled internally after successful completion of the Location General Manager training program. The ability to relocate and train out of market is a plus.

Assistant Store Manager
An individual in this position is responsible for assisting the Location General Manager in the overall operation of a specific CarMax location, with emphasis on the sales area of the business. Sales Manager
Individuals in this position begin as a Sales Manager in Training and are responsible for hiring, training, and managing a team of commissioned sales consultants. Approximately 95% of each day is spent on the sales floor coaching, developing and mentoring sales consultants to achieve maximum sales and excellent customer service. Other responsibilities include managing budgets, setting sales goals, and conducting team meetings.

Requirements include successful achievement as a senior sales consultant, or experience in sales management in a high volume retail environment with experience with P & L management. Undergraduate degree is preferred.

Sales Consultant
This critical position is the first impression for our customers. It requires the ability to sell vehicles in a friendly, no-haggle, and low-pressure customer environment. Sales Consultants spend 95% of their time on the sales floor greeting customers, informing them of our services, and creating a match between their needs and our inventory. This includes follow-up and creating an outstanding buying experience for every customer.

Purchasing Manager
A purchasing manager is responsible for the entire inventory of the store, from all vehicle appraisals to off-site/on-site auctions and leading a store’s purchasing team. The purchasing manager leads strategically so that our stores have optimum inventory levels and coordinates purchasing team workload, schedules, and travel to off-site auctions to meet these goals. A purchasing manager investigates changes in the wholesale and retail vehicle market and reacts accordingly, motivates, leads and trains the purchasing team, and delegates efficiently to serve the purchasing needs of the business. Purchasing managers remain hands-on in their leadership roles, and work in a fast-paced indoor/outdoor environment with their teams. This position is filled internally by a successful Senior Buyer.

Senior Buyer
Senior buyers are responsible for all the duties listed for a buyer, as well as for training, mentoring, and coaching more junior buyers. Senior buyers are responsible for understanding retail trends and become involved in the inventory planning process, organizing workloads on and off-site, and troubleshooting. Senior buyers also become more involved in management responsibilities including scheduling, staffing, and development of the purchasing team; a senior buyer also acts as a manager in the absence of the purchasing manager. This position is filled internally by a successful buyer.

Buyer
Buyers are responsible for obtaining CarMax’s phenomenal used-car inventory through appraisals and by attending off-site auctions. After completing the buyer in training program, a buyer coordinates wholesale auctions, attends off-site auctions, and appraises vehicles at the store (with appraisals comprising most of a buyer’s duties.) Buyers negotiate pricing, understand vehicle damage and subsequent costs involved with the damage, and make financially-sound purchasing decisions for the company. This includes working with our technicians to determine reconditioning costs and determining retail values as well as working with other departments to create strong customer experiences. Buyers must be able to make detailed financial decisions within strict timeframes, and have the ability to retain crucial information regarding the retail/wholesale vehicle market. Buyers are also responsible for mentoring Buyers in Training through their training process. This position is filled internally by a successful Buyer In Training.

Buyer in Training
The Buyer in Training position is the required entry position for our store purchasing department and offers a great career path to a senior management role. As part of our CarMax store Purchasing Team, a Buyer in Training is responsible for conducting vehicle appraisals, coordinating on-site auctions, and attending various regional auctions (up to 20% overnight travel is required). During the 8-12 month training period, Buyers in Training become familiar with CarMax vehicle standards, recognizing cosmetic damage and the costs involved, as well as working with sales consultants to deliver accurate customer appraisals. Buyers in Training track their purchases through the quality inspection and reconditioning process and set pricing based on sales data and competitive analysis. This position provides a unique mix of analytical and physical challenges due to the fast-paced nature of the business, and approximately 50% of a buyer's time is spent outdoors in a rigorous "hands-on" environment.

The ideal background includes 3+ years of retail management experience, but resumes with a strong work history in other service oriented industries and sales/customer service environments will be considered. An ownership mentality, competitive spirit, high energy and attention to detail are a must to be successful in this position. The position also requires strong leadership, analytical and customer service skills. Ability to work 50+ hours per week, including evenings and weekends, is required. Bachelor's Degree and the ability to relocate are strongly preferred.

Operations Manager
This position is responsible for managing a high volume used car reconditioning operation and a profitable retail service operation. Additional responsibilities include achieving financial and operational targets of all aspects of store operations. These include preparation, execution and adherence to departmental budgets, service operations P & L statements and production & cost control; achieving high customer satisfaction; resolving associate and customer issues; and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA & Risk Management rules and regulations. Also required is the recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and retaining of operations personnel, along with performance management.

Reconditioning Production Manager
This position is responsible for supervising Inventory Associates, Recon Technicians, and Cosmetic Supervisors. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the integrity of the Store’s vehicle inventory, maintaining optimal vehicle flow through WIP (i.e., cycle time), achieving Newly Saleable targets, maintaining CarMax quality standards on the display lot, maintaining both high quality and production efficiency for the Store’s Cosmetic Technicians and performing the duties of an Operations Manager in his/her absence.

Service Manager
This position is responsible for managing an auto service operation with maximum customer focus and efficient, high quality repairs; and a team of technicians and service consultants. Additional responsibilities include managing sublet vendor processes and warranty administration; mentoring and training service consultants; monitoring and managing CSI & FIR to be within company guidelines; and resolving customer issues that relate to service. The Service Manager will also assist in the hiring process and performance management of service consultants, technicians and warranty administrator.

Requirements include prior hands-on management experience in a high volume, fast paced, service oriented environment; proven track record of high CSI & FIR scores; and success in performance managing and developing associates. Must also have knowledge of OSHA & EPA requirements.

Cosmetic Supervisor
This position is responsible for supervising Detailers, Reconditioning Technicians, and Painters. Additional responsibilities include completion of cosmetic inspections on all vehicles to be reconditioned, maintaining optimal vehicle flow through assigned work zones, maintaining CarMax cosmetic quality standards on all reconditioned vehicles, and maintaining both high quality and production efficiency for the Store’s Cosmetic Technicians.

Requirements include previous direct supervisory experience in a high volume, fast-paced, process driven operation; previous detail oriented responsibilities; and success in performance managing and developing associates. Must also have the ability to manage a 24-hour operation and work both inside & outside.

Service Consultant
This position is responsible for scheduling repair appointments and greeting customers in service lanes. Additional responsibilities include generating estimates, writing repair orders, and following up with the customer.

Requirements include great communication skills and must be professional and courteous with a high commitment to exceptional customer service. Knowledge of vehicle repair and warranty work a plus.

Parts Manager
Responsibilities of a Parts Manager include maintaining parts inventory for all types of vehicles including stock levels, daily and special orders, and controlling aging & shrinkage. Parts managers assign parts to a vehicle stock number or RO, maintain vendor relations and hazardous disposal logs, and monitor quality and costs of parts. Parts managers also assist in the hiring process and performance management of inventory associates.

Requirements include direct supervisory experience and success in performance managing and developing associates. Previous responsibilities requiring attention to detail and organizational skills a must. Demonstrated ability to build vendor relations, track record of successful inventory control, and excellent customer service skills are required.

Manager in Training (Operations)
A Manager in Training (MIT) will rotate through all departments of the operations side of the business to obtain a working knowledge of CarMax’s process. Extensive training is provided to ensure success is obtained during each rotation. Successful completion of each rotation is required prior to moving to next level.
MIT candidates must have the ability to understand daily/weekly/monthly reports, (including forecasting, capacity planning, budgets and P & L statements); and knowledge of processes and work production flow. Additional responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and associate performance management.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years management experience in a high volume, process driven, fast paced environment. Must also have a successful track record of people development, as well as analytical and computer skills. The ability to relocate is preferred.

This is a 4 month training position to prepare an individual for an Assistant Business Office Manager position. This extensive training program is a combination of self-paced study and on-the-job training.

Requirements include 2+ years retail management experience with proven ability to lead, motivate and develop associates, excellent follow up skills and commitment to providing superior customer service. Must be highly organized, efficient and process oriented. Ability to train in another market and/or relocate is also required.

This hourly position is responsible for leading a team of full time and part time associates within our business office, which handles many functions including delivering exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers. Other responsibilities include processing documents associated with customer's vehicle purchases, assisting customers with questions on tag and title information and processing title transfers, completing DMV paperwork, assisting our purchasing team with in-store auctions, handling accounts payable functions, tendering cash transactions and preparing bank deposits. A Lead Business Office Associate will take on supervisory functions in the absence of the managers.

We offer both Full and Part Time positions and no previous automotive experience is required.
