Volunteerism

CarMax Associates aren't just employees, they're members of their communities. We believe that supporting our neighborhoods and communities is an important part of being a corporate citizen.

Our Volunteer Program provides opportunities for CarMax Associates to make a lasting impact on their communities. Associates participate in the Volunteer Program as part of a team-building activity or individually.

Volunteer Teams

Through The CarMax Foundation, a store, regional, CarMax Auto Finance, or Home Office manager can make a team-building event more rewarding. Not only does the team provide an important service to the community or organization, but the nonprofit organization is then eligible to receive a grant from The CarMax Foundation.

Individual volunteers

If an individual CarMax Associate volunteers at least 10 hours with a charitable organization, The CarMax Foundation will match their time with a donation of $10 per hour.

Looking for CarMax volunteers?

The CarMax Foundation refers interested Associates to the Hands On Network and VolunteerMatch. So when your nonprofit organization is seeking CarMax volunteers, we request that you register to post opportunities.

Volunteer spotlight

Colorado Springs volunteers with Special Kids Special Families.

It’s a great feeling to volunteer for an organization that holds a special place in the hearts of CarMax Associates. That's why the team at Colorado Springs was thrilled to take part in an activity with Special Kids Special Families in the Zach's Place program. Zach’s Place provides support to families of special needs children, ages 5 to 21. In fact, the reason it is so special to the Colorado Springs team is because of the support the program provided to an Associate’s family when a child was going through treatment for a brain tumor. The team decided that this was the perfect opportunity to give back to a program that had so greatly helped one of their own. Because of this team's effort, the organization will receive a CarMax Foundation Volunteer Grant.

During the team's visit to Zach's Place, they created a rock pathway, planted flowers, mulched the front yard, repaired the deck, groomed trees, painted a bench and table, and provided strawberry and tomato plants for the kids to plant. After all this hard work and progress, the team is looking forward to their next volunteer project at Zach's Place.
