Audi A6 FAQ: Hero | CarMax

Long gone are the days of having to choose between luxury and performance when shopping for a car. Today, luxury sport sedans like the midsize Audi A6 deliver the best of both worlds.

Specifically, the 2021 Audi A6 is a midsize luxury sport sedan with seating for up to five passengers. Available with two different turbocharged engine options and three appealing trim levels, there's likely to be a used A6 out there to suit your tastes. Meanwhile, every 2021 A6 is equipped with standard all-wheel drive—which isn't easy to come by in a midsize sedan.

Inside the cabin, standard features on every 2021 Audi A6 are generous and include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, and a booming 10-speaker sound system. On the tech front, you'll also enjoy standard equipment that includes an 8.8 touchscreen display, as well as smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto.

When you're in the market for a sleek and stylish sedan that's as fun to drive as it is indulgent, the Audi A6 has you covered. To help with your research, we've taken the time to answer some of the most asked questions about the A6 in our FAQ section below.

Audi A6 FAQs

Q: What cars are similar to the Audi A6?

A: The Audi A6 is classified as a midsize luxury sport sedan—and there are several competitors in its class. Some of the A6's top competitors include:

Q: How much does a 2020 Audi A6 cost?

A: While many factors can affect the cost of a used Audi A6 (including mileage, trim, and features), the average cost for a 2020 Audi A6 at CarMax is $44,998.1

Q: Is an Audi A6 a sports car?

A: According to the manufacturer, the A6 is considered a "luxury sports sedan.” This makes sense, given its sleek design and standard turbocharged engines across all 2021 trims.

Meanwhile, those who want an even sportier A6 may want to look for a used 2021 model that has been equipped (when sold new) with the optional Black Optic Sport package. This package adds features such as:

  • a gloss-black exterior trim

  • upgraded 20-inch wheels

  • a sport suspension

  • lower ride height

Q: Is the Audi A6 discontinued?

A: While the Audi A6 has not been discontinued, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann reported in January of 2021 that several Audi models (including the A6) will be temporarily paused for a redesign/refresh.

Specifically, a new version of the A6 will be launched in 2023; this new generation of Audi vehicles will be more focused on electric engines rather than traditional combustion engines, although it is believed that a combustion engine will still be offered for at least the 2023 model year.

Q: Which Audi A6 engine is the best?

A: This really depends on what's most important to you in an engine. The 2021 A6 is available in two engine configurations: a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder and a turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine.

If you're looking for an engine with the most horsepower, then the turbocharged 3.0L V6 is where it's at. This engine puts out a whopping 335 hp, compared to 261 hp with the 2.0L engine. Keep in mind, however, that the more powerful engine is only available on select 2021 A6 trims. If you don't want to miss out on the turbocharged V6 engine, look for a used A6 in the Prestige trim; the V6 was standard on this trim when the 2021 A6 was sold new.

On the other hand, if you're looking for an engine that offers greater fuel economy, then the standard 2.0L turbo may suit you well. This engine still puts out a respectable 261 hp, but also gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined on its base 2021 Premium trim with standard all-wheel drive.2 That's two more miles per gallon than the more powerful V6 engine.

Q: Which Audi is the fastest?

A: Audi is known for its sports cars with powerful engines, but the fastest Audi to ever exist would have to be the 2019 Audi R8 equipped with the available V10 engine. This model can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds.

While the 2021 A6 may not be the fastest car that Audi offers, it can still hit 60 mph from a standstill in about 5.6 seconds with its standard 2.0L engine.
