Reasons to Buy a Nissan 350Z | CarMax

If you’re looking for an exciting used sports car that won’t bend or break your budget, check out the Nissan 350Z. Our shoppers have — in fact, it’s one of the most highly-searched cars we offer. These two-seaters are sought out for their great mix of high performance and looks and their wide range of options, all at a great price.

The 350Z is a return to the classic long nose/short back end, rear-drive, two-seater form that Nissan pioneered with the 240Z in the early 1970s. Shoppers will find lots of variants, with plenty of features in each. The Enthusiast, Touring, and Grand Touring convertible roadster offer goodies for the driving aficionado (limited slip differential, six-speed manual gearbox, 300-hp-plus engine option), or comfort-package features (front-seat heaters, leather interior).

The engine is an up-tuned version of Nissan’s 3.5-liter, V6 workhorse, and it’s good for 287 horsepower (2007-2009 models have a larger V6, and 306 hp). To get this kind of torque-ish giddy-up (0-60 mph in just over five seconds) in nearly any other two-seater, you’d need to pay more. A good bit more. CarMax offers 350Zs at an average sticker price of just $15,000.

Performance-wise, the 350Z a very well-balanced car, due to the engine being mounted behind the front wheels, not over them. Better balance translates to better handling on the road; here, the six-speed manual shifter operates precisely with crisp, short throws, and the firm suspension provides great road-feel. In addition to all this performance, the 350Z looks great from just about any angle.

On the con side, the 350Z is a tad heavy for a two-seat sports car, and there’s not a lot of room in the trunk (7 square feet for the coupe, 4 square feet for the convertible).

Looking for lots of driving fun for not a lot of money? The Nissan 350Z could be just the car for you.

Here’s what our customers say about the 350Z:

“Fell in love with the Z’s years ago. Finally made the big leap and am so happy with my decision. Started out looking at the coupes but after driving this grand touring roadster I was hooked.”

“Great car for tooling around and having fun. Performance is great and I get lots of looks. Gas mileage is about what I expected (19 around town, 27 on highway). I took a trip and had to pack light because of small trunk. The many compartments inside the car are good for storing small things. Ride was a little rough, but not too bad (which I expected). I've had a great time running around with the top down. I'm 67 years old and feel like I'm 30 years younger when driving this car. I would highly recommend this car to anyone who wants to have fun. Be careful of the speed. It gets there in a hurry.”
