After driving "sensible" and "efficient" cars most of my life, I wanted a car that appealed to my visual sense as well as my mental state. This car is sharp looking (especially with tinted windows) and has the right amount of luxury feel and a healthy dose of performance and technology. Also, a big bonus of getting nearly the same mileage as my Honda Civic!
I've had the Audi A5 for about a month and pretty much everything I've read and heard about this puppy is true so far. The two biggest things: 1. Be prepared for a lot of head turning stares. This car gets attention. Between the lines and sleek profile, the aggressive grill, and LED daytime running lamps, it's just really really hard not to look at this car as it goes by...or even as it's just standing still. It's truly beautiful and its rarity on the road (so far, being a new model, a coupe, and at a price point way above average) makes it that much more eye-catching...'what IS that?', I'm sure people are wondering. 2. It's a zippy performer but definitely not a sports car. The relatively low horsepower for a V6 belies it racy exterior. It certainly does not jump off the line like it looks like it should. The S5 is supposed to get you there more. Having said that, this car is no slouch, though. It may be slower than you'd like at start, but when it gets up to speed, it handles beautifully and confidently. In fact, call me crazy, but it feels like it prefers to run at 70-80 mph than it does going 40-50 mph. The features and amenities work flawlessly and the MMI unit is pretty easy to learn. Things like Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, rearview camera, voice commands, navigation system, valet setting, side assist (blind spot monitoring for lane changing), and auto-dimming rearview mirror may not be the types of things you can only find in this car, but they are in there and work very well together. So far, the only things I don't really like are that it has a tilt-only sunroof. Would be great to open that up fully. But this is something you know when you buy the car, so it's not too bad. The other thing is that front cupholder blocks access to the shifter just enough to be annoying when there's a normal size cup/bottle in there. Not a big deal but when so much is right about a vehicle, it's hard to find some faults.
This car is fantastic! I tend to punch it up to the speed limit and cruise from there on, and it is very quick while also being very fuel efficient. The fit and finish are wonderful and the standard equipment is everything I would expect from an executive car.
