If you are looking for a fun to drive car with classy style and materials at a relatively affordable price, the TT is ideal. Interior room is reasonable for a coupe/hatchback as long as you don't expect to transport people very far in the back seats!
This car's a great car. They make gobs of power by just chipping/flashing and the k03/k04 spools before you even get in the car. they're great platforms for going bigger turbo, and have seen 1.8T budget setups putting 300whp+ to the ground, for the most part, on stock internals. audi did it right by going 5x100 bolt pattern instead of 5x112 because the vw community has alot of great wheels to choose from. the only drawback is the timing belt is known to snap at aroudn 60k miles amongst all 1.8T owners. it's a p.i.t.a. but overall, it's just another hunch to get over. this car is also iconic for its design. there's nothing like this car nor will there ever be.
Looks can be deceiving, what looks good outside is not necessarily true inside� My wife and I are unfortunate owners of 2 Audi vehicles. I figured after the dismal interior quality and frequent repairs of our first Audi, a 2006 A3, would prevent my wife from buying another Audi. If Audi is a luxury vehicle brand than I recommend buying the extended warranty to the maximum amount/coverage possible! From my experience, I would have only lost time and less money repairing the following items that have broken since owning the A3: all four interior door handles (I only fixed one, at a cost of $300), 2 window regulators (that failed within weeks of each other), Coolant flange, 2 sun roof sunshade latches, fan motor controller (failed with Audi precision and impeccable timing, during a cold, heavy rain when I really needed to use the defroster to see out of my windows), the middle seat belt that locks up when the seat is lowered and has to be reset, drink holder latch snapped off and finally a CV Boot splitting open, flinging lube all over. Nope, the stupid shall be punished (that�s me) because my wife fell in love with a used 2006 TT with 30K miles on it and had to buy it (at least it was cheaper than the A3). So far after 2 months of ownership, I only have 2 complaints. A turn signal light bulb that failed, and an annoying creaking sunshade that refuses to be quiet when driving on rough roads. I don�t drive the vehicle much, but when I do it is fun to drive, almost Mustang-like with the throaty sound of the engine and great throttle response (unlike the severe turbo and DSG lag I experience with the A3). What really amazed me, is the completely different interior, door handles that haven�t separated and quality feel to the seats and the interior overall. Despite banging the side of my head a few times when getting into the low rooflined TT, so far this vehicle has been less disappointing then the down market Audi Catera� Uh I mean the Audi A3 that suffers the same affliction the Cadillac Catera did when GM tried to reach down market from what I�ve heard (I�ve never owned a Catera, but I did have a Fleetwood, that left me dead on the road in the desert with a blown rear main seal after 60K miles, so I can believe it). So if you are thinking about buying an Audi, stay away from the A3, but the TT so far is decent and fun to drive.
