This car's a great car. They make gobs of power by just chipping/flashing and the k03/k04 spools before you even get in the car. they're great platforms for going bigger turbo, and have seen 1.8T budget setups putting 300whp+ to the ground, for the most part, on stock internals. audi did it right by going 5x100 bolt pattern instead of 5x112 because the vw community has alot of great wheels to choose from. the only drawback is the timing belt is known to snap at aroudn 60k miles amongst all 1.8T owners. it's a p.i.t.a. but overall, it's just another hunch to get over. this car is also iconic for its design. there's nothing like this car nor will there ever be.
I bought the 3.2 Quattro Coupe version of the TT. I specifically hunted down the 08 because Audi have rebalanced the chassis using steel at the rear to make the car handle perfectly neutral. On the track, holding down the traction control button for 5 seconds releases all stability controls and you can truely do four wheel drive drifts through the corners and come out completely under control. In slalom it is as stable as the corvettes and porsche's I watched through the same sections. The comfort in the car is not sacrificed for any of this performance which is why I chose this car over an Evo or an STi. Yes, they generate 50 more bhp, but at the end of the day when I set the cruise control and lay back in the seat it's as quiet and comfortable as any luxury auto. The tires are the only thing I'm going to change. I don't know what came stock on the car, but Falken ZE 512's are on it right now and they let go far before the chassis loses stability.
I've wanted 1 of these ever since prduction begin in 2000, but since I was about 12 years old, Audi has always stood out in my mind as a car of quality, style, and elegance. The TT is all of that and more. This car handles like no other car I've owned. 6 speed manual transmission, turbo charged inline 4 cylinder, and needless to say, the body style makes people notice it. i've gotten a lot of complments on it since the purchase, but even without the compliments, I am still very much enjoying the car. I'm a true music lover, music of almost every kind, and the Bose system, being a versatile as it is, makes anything sound wonderful. From Tchaivozsky to Slayer, I don't think I could ask for a better performing sound system. The speed sensitivity is also a major plus. Any excuse I can use to drive this car, I'll use it. The comfort level is beyond what I could have imagined it to be. The seats hug you through every turn. The braking system is very smooth, even in abrupt stops. There is very little road noise, even at high speeds on a very windy day. How's the gas mileage, you ask? I drive a lot. A lot. I only have to fill up every 5 - 6 days. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants speed, comfort and elegance!
