Owned my 2006 530i since 3/08. Beware the harsher ride of the Sports Package. This may seem counter intuitive but try one without and compare. i-Drive is not intuitive. Example: No dipstick, the oil level and quality are checked using i-Drive: Now try to find that part of the menu. But many settings can be customized using i-Drive. Frequent drivers will master it but occasional drivers [wife, teens] will be distracted. Cup holders poorly positioned. Very solid quiet car, nice to drive, great gas mileage [premium fuel] good trunk size. Xlnt Bluetooth function. BMW covers scheduled maintenance for 4 years but after that dealer service is very costly. Yes, I would buy it again but the purpose of a review is to give prospective buyers useful info, not stroke the reviewer's ego.
They don't call these the "Ultimate Driving Machines" for nothing! All World Engineering, classy styling - both interior and exterior, very comfortable ride, and just fun! The acceleration is pretty cool too, and the handling, especially on turns/curves, is great. I had a 530i, but driving around Chicagoland in the snow, the 530 xi is that much more better. The All-Wheel drive option is a nice add - with the rear wheel drive, you could feel the pull & the slide of the rear of the car in icy conditions. Both the 530i & the 530 xi handle the rain with no problems at all. In terms of safety, these cars are a built like a solid cage. I had the misfortune of totalling my 530i after I hit a patch of ice, but I walked away totally unscathed. Well, maybe my ego took a hit :) Two thumbs up, 5 Stars, etc., etc. This car is well-deserving of the praise!
This vehicle is by far the most well made automobile I have even owned. I have owned Cadillac's, Jaguars and an array of american and foreign autos to date. This vehicle has all of the bells and whistles combining both performance and reasonable fuel economy as well. I have found the vhicle electronics and mouse wheel in the center console both easy to learn as well as ergonomically friendly. I particularly enjoy the HUD (heads up display) on the front windscreen it is nice that BMW incorporated the turn by turn in the navigation system to the HUD as well. This vehicle is exciting to drive wrapped in user friendly features. The audio system boasts awesome sound as well as Satellite radio, CD, MP3 (aux) as well as the usual cast of characters AM and FM radio. The display has very large text making it extremely easy to read in any and all conditions at a glance. Unlike other vehicles I have owned, the AM radio is extremely clear and doesn't fade in and out when listening to talk radio during my commute. For anyone looking for a fine German automobile check one of these vehicles out!
