This is the PERFECT configuration of a BMW for most drivers! The 300 hp twin turbo v6 engine has no lag, great torque and more horsepower to push you over all the legal speed limits in the US freeways within 6-8 seconds! Even overtaking traffic going uphill with a full load is so fluid and effortless. A surprise to so many trying it out for the first time. For those who have felt other turbo equipped cars, you will be very surprised at how silent and smooth this one is. You'll only feel the torque pushing you back in your chair until you release the gas. It's pretty good for a turbo V6 gas efficiency wise...you'll likely average around 24 mpg driving freeway and city streets in the Southern California area. Like many modern BMW models, it is governed at 150mph, but if it wasn't, it's got so much more juice in it to go past that (why spend more on the more expensive models?). This car is made in Munich, Germany. It is made to drive on the Autobanh (with no speed limits) and last a long time. In fact, the break in recommendation is not to drive it over 100 mph the first 1200 miles. The 5 series sedan is just the right size for having up to 3 people in the car (the 3-series is really too tight for that compared to the 5), and the trunk has a nice large storage space that fits large luggage plus more. This car is meant for the driver to enjoy driving. Elegant, sophisticated inside, and responsive to your driving, one becomes one with the car and feels the trip with an air of comfort, elegance and confidence on the road.
The style, ride comfort and great handling, the power, the incredible mileage I get with eco-boost, the reliability, and the quality craftmanship of the interior and exterior are beyond compare. Of the fifteen cars I have owned in the last 30+ years, this is the best.
The handling is just not what it should be. I am a tried and true 5 series owner and love the balance that used to be there. It just seems too big and lacks the legendary handling, even with the sports package and a manual transmission. The 2011 has very strange placements of interior items - this did change for the better later on. Don't get me wrong - this has incredible power and ease of use. It is just not the great drive it used to be. Get a 428 or a 435 Gran Coupe instead.
