The BMW 650i convertible has excellent power and is a beautiful car. I was first looking at a M6 but decided to go with the 650 instead due to the price difference. I was worried that the 650 would not have enough engine power. That was not the case. It has 4 different driving modes (two sport modes) and paddle shifters. You can be in total sport mode or total comfort mode! what a beautiful and fun car!
This car is very comfortable for the 2 front drivers and delivers a an exciting driving experience. Although it is no light weight, the power delivery is very smooth, specially with the SPORT mode selected. It looks great with the Top down or up. There are some minor annoying things about the idrive that causes some confusion with the radio/Nav settings. The owner will also have to be careful with the Bluetooth setting; as leaving it on in the vicinity of connected devices, such as cell phones, may drain the battery with the car turned off. However, none of these issues takes away from the smile I get when I hit the gas.
This car handles like a dream. It has the best brakes I have ever seen. The steering actually responds to the brakes. Most other cars will loose their direction when you slam on the brakes and so you have to compensate by steering. With this car, slam on the brakes and the car does not change its direction. This is huge not only for safety but also performance because it enables you to drive the car while the car maintains its own control. The car's default setting is for a luxury ride. The transmission can be switched to sport mode with the gear shift to pass other cars. Or both the transmission and the motor can be switched to sport mode with the sport button for best overall performance. This car's performance in sport mode just gets better whereas some other cars tend to get squirrelly. Why drive those other cars in sport mode if they sacrifice control for speed? This car makes no such sacrifices. Having said that, normal mode performance is more than adequate for daily driving. I drive it sport mode just to have more fun with it. The moon roof is so large that it's like having a convertible without the problems of a convertible. The trunk is huge. The back seats are comfortable and they provide enough leg space for all but the tallest people. You can feel the quality in this car. It's built to last with systems that monitor their own quality control. Some cars will tell you that they need service but they won't provide any details. This car tells you exactly what service is necessary and when for many of its sytems, not just the engine. This car always turns heads and never fails to impress. I give it 5 out of 5 stars in all categories except value for the money. But I don't think anyone buys a BMW because its cheap. You're going to have to pay some premium for a car like this.
