Wonderful Vehicle

The BMW X5 is a beautiful vehicle, inside and out. The interior is smartly designed with no wasted space. I was a bit apprehensive about learning the iDrive system, but after a few trips you can find most functions with minimum effort. For such a heavy vehicle (~6200 lbs), it's surprisingly good on gas. I average about 18 mpg in the city, and 21-23 on the highway (roughly the same as our XC90, but with an additional ~1500 lbs). The V6 feels underpowered at times, but the slight increase in fuel efficiency makes up for it. In fact, the only flaw I can find is the price. But given BMW's reputation for quality, there's a reason their vehicles demand premium prices. I realize the review is light on technical information, but "I love this car!" essentially sums up my experience with the X5. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to others.

2008 BMW X5 - great family SUV

It's been great so far as our 1st SUV. We purchased this for our newborn since our previous cars would be too small for what we needed. We looked at comparable SUVs such as the Audi Q5, Lexus RX300, Mercedes ML350 and Acura MDX and decided to go with the BMW X5. I was worried about the notorious reliability of BMW X5s, but so far we haven't had any major problems. We went ahead and purchased the 2 year extended warranty. We have used it so far to replace the battery and a radiator. Other than that it's been treating us very well. The cabin is very spacious, quiet and stylish. The handling is a little stiffer that the other cars mentioned above. People still don't believe me that its a 2008 car! Very classic and timeless.

2008 BMW X5 4.8i

For performance in a SUV, there is nothing better than the BMW. Gas mileage is as expected for a high performance SUV (averaging between 16-17). BMW needs to improve the electronics of the vehicle. Mine has had window issues and the navigation system is spotty at best. The premium seat package is worth it, some the most comfortable I have had. Be aware that the run flat tire will cost you serious money when it comes time to replace them and be HP tires, they don't last as long as an average tire. The do stick o the road and give you a very confident ride. While sticker shock may keep you from considering the BMW, once you drive one you will get hooked. I saved a significant amount getting a 2008 rather than an 2009/2010.
