1. Cup holders arent good. Driver side holder broken in first month of ownership and placed a large scratch on my left leg. Even in working order the cup holders are designed to hold an enormous cup; isnt useful with a normal sized travel cup. 2. Head light sensor isnt working correctly; this is a big disappointment. A three year old car shouldnt have this issue. 3. Nav system is very good. 4. Tire monitor too sensitive during cold weather. 5. Heating/air conditioning is very good. 6. Seating is comfortable 7. Very limited space for storage. Glove box too small, storage compartments too small. 8. Interior head liner vibrates at higher speeds. Sound is annoying. 9. Exterior and color is very stylish; car is a head turner for sure. 10. Because the car is so small its not always seen on the road. Defensive driving is a must. 11. Car is small and low to the ground. Has more road noise than a regular sedan. Overall great car, fun to drive, very stylish, head turner but really needs a solid answer for the cup holders; features like automatic head lights and tire monitor should work better.
Great exterior styling, great ride, 2.5 engine has plenty of juice for its size. Handling is great on curvy backroads. Fully adjustible seats and telescoping steering column will make most drivers totally comfortable. I do not care for all the plastic and contemporary looks of the dashboard area. My older Z3 with wooden appearance around the console and dash areas looks more like a true sports car. The Z4 with its brushed aluminum dash and small gauges surrounded by "mega plastic" look more like a cheap sedan and do not compare with the older Z3 cockpit. My older Z3 door closes with a deep sounding "THUNK." The Z4 door rattles and sounds tinny. Give me the Z4 for exterior appearance but I would take the older Z3 for its true sports car cockpit any time.
I had no idea when I went looking for a car I would have end up with a car that fit me so right. The BMW Z4 is a headturner and is a blast to drive. The gas mileage is decent and is crazy fast. Its comfortable and handles the curves like a tight rope. I'm just flat out having fun driving to work now!
