Transmission: Automatic Color: Red Avg. Vehicle Review: 4.595 (37 reviews) "If you are looking for a practical and stylish option in the compact SUV segment, I highly recommend taking a Captiva for a test-drive. We went with the LTZ for the interior amenities that are top of the class (leather, sunroof, heated seats, premium sound/XM, bluetooth, USB, backup sensors, rear view camera- almost giving Buick some competition) Having not even heard of this vehicle until searching CarMax for vehicles in the segment, I did some research to see what the deal was. This vehicle actually has a European pedigree, starting in Europe as the Opel Antara (the German "feel" that you find in VW, BMW, and Mercedes is present in the suspension and handling, as well as the quiet ride and solid sounding door thud). It is essentially sold world wide under other GM brands (including Vauxhall, Holden, and Daewoo) with various interior modifications and slightly different drive-trains. The Chevy model may look somewhat familiar since it was last sold in the US as the '08-'09 Saturn Vue, however the engine and transmission are modernized; in my opinion well suited for the segment and our needs. For the price, year, and milage of these vehicles they are a way better deal than CR-V, Escape, RAV-4, and Tiguan when similarly equipped (by almost $10k on average) Space is good for the segment and I like the reclining rear seats but wish they slid forward/backward like some other models. The driver seat offers excellent forward visibility, large side mirrors help with reducing the blind spots, and visibility out the back is no worse than any other SUV and better than some with smaller rear windows. FM Radio reception is not great compared to our '04 Jetta (some stations just don't come in clear, maybe related to short antenna?). Sunroof interior pull shade was off its track when we got the Captiva but could probably be popped back in, just need to figure out how, and passenger visor roof-clip is lose as well-- probably the price for it being used as a rental but not big deals. Really like everything else about the interior, especially the gauges and steering wheel controls (looks very high end, especially when lit up at night). Rides really well, wife is primary driver and loves it. Great real world milage in around town driving and on the highway (averaged 29 mpg on a recent road trip with mostly highway driving). Accelerates reasonably well even in ECO mode, not a sports car and we don't need/expect it to be. The 6-speed transmission is smooth and the engine is quiet. Road/wind/wheel/engine noise is minimal under 65 mph and present but still low volume over that speed. Looks much more high-end inside and out, brings to mind Lexus and BMW styling."

Some of the complaints are legit, it is under powered and the seats are uncomfortable. I wouldn't drive it in the mountains but around town and short drives it is fun to drive. The 6 speed transmission can be annoying always shifting or down shifting but maybe I can get use to it after awhile. I wish I'd have bought a v6 Dodge Journey."

Great deal in a compact SUV/Crossover
