I have to say that I LOVE this car. It looks very different and quirky - an individualist, so to speak. But the really sweet part is the drive. The standard 5 speed lets this car drive almost like a sports car! You certainly would never know it is a boxy little car. The engine sounds good and gets good gas mileage; nothing negative to say about it. And the cargo space is HUGE. I can transport lots of stuff - I just moved and transported almost my whole apartment (with the exception of the queen-size bed) using my HHR. Gotta go drive it...
I really enjoy our HHR. My husband and I bought it as a company car for a painting business. It is really roomy (front and back seats) and the plastic in the way back makes messes really easy to clean up rather than cloth. The speaker system has good clear sound. It drives well in snow, much better than my little car. I really like how it tells the tire pressure in the electronic information view. The GAS MILEAGE is great!!! On average we have been getting 26 - 29 mpg! It is a champ and we will never get rid of it.
I've test driven the 2007, but was in the price range of the 2006. The 2006 HHR gets excellent gas mileage, I get between 28-32 in the city, and 40+ on the freeway. The cargo area is more than ample and the interior height accomodates a variety of hauling. We just drove the HHR through South Dakota's Black Hills and it was a champ compared to some slower, larger vehicles hesitating to get up to Mt. Rushmore! The 2006 gets better gas mileage than the newer 07 & 08's, as compared on some sites. Not sure if it's the overall weight &/or engine size, but I am grateful nonetheless. In addition, the power seat & height adjustments provides excellent visibility. There are many 'hidden' storage compartments, including the locations for the 3 available car seat tether anchors. This is a great alternative to the less fuel efficient minivans, and provides a comfortable long distance ride with excellent handling.
