I came from a Chevy Tahoe so this was an adjustment. However, it's a 4-cylinder vehicle with GREAT gas mileage, which was the main reason for the purchase. It has decent carrying capacity and is easy to get an infant car seat in and out. The interior lighting is not good though. It performs well on streets and highways with good pick-up. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for an economical ride and it looks great!
After looking over this car for a while, I finally decided to give it a test drive, and I can honestly say it was love at first sight (err, drive)! The first thing I noticed was how powerful the AC was, and how quickly kicked in. GREAT for those hot summer days. Once driving it off the lot, I continued to fall for it. The steering handled so smoothly compared to my previous car, and it handled the road like it was nothing. I could hardly feel any of the bumps in the road, and the car had a lot of power behind it. The next thing I noticed was the sound system... it was a Pioneer soundsystem with an aux input (for iPods/MP3 players). It sounds AMAZING. And it has all sorts of different settings for improving the sound, not that it needs help. Another awesome thing about the HHR is its storage. You can lay the back seats down to create a TON of room in the rear of the car. Perfect for moving, or even vacations. There's just so much more to say about it, but not enough time to do so. Just give it a go for yourself!
This '08 HHR came with an aftermarket "woodie" panelling package that enhanced the retro look of the car. The 2.2 litre engine gives adequate acceleration and also gets almost 27mpg in city driving. On the highway, we've seen 33 mpg at a steady 75 mph! The woody is not heavy and does buffet in hard, gusty wind. The climate control is effective and all manual. We think it should be without any automated gliches. The car came with remote start and we've started appreciating that on these frigid mornings. As far as handling goes it is "okay". It has electric steering (I have no idea how that works)and is too light for my taste--you can spin the wheel with one finger. (My other car is a G35 with sport package.) ON the plus side, it is very responsive and easy for my wife to handle in sensible driving. We're happy with it and its' capabilities for hauling odd shaped items in the cargo area. We'd buy another one.
