Generation Overview

The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sits near the end of the run for the second generation of this light duty pickup, which began in 2007. The third generation was introduced for model year 2015 and heralded the expanded use of infotainment and driver assist features. Even though it is called a light duty truck, you are able to get plenty done whether you opt for rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. With seven trim levels to choose from, you’ll find the truck ready to get muddy, pull an extra heavy load, or even pack up for some off-road adventure on the weekends.

The WT stands for work truck and can be found on all three cabs and box lengths. Wash off the dirt from the vinyl seats, floor mats, steel wheels, black bumpers, and exterior trim. The LT takes you a step up with chrome trim, power windows, cloth seats, and 17-inch styled steel wheels. The LS and LTZ trims are only found on the extended and crew cab trucks. The LS nearly matches the LT, except the LT has a split rear bench seat and an available active AutoTrac® transfer case on 4WD trucks. In the LTZ you are treated to a luxurious cabin featuring leather power and heated front seats, a Bose® sound system, Bluetooth® connection for hands-free calling, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Body-color bumpers and door handles smooth out the exterior while a standard trailering package includes a brake controller and beefed up oil cooler.

If you are searching for a means to extend your fuel mileage, check out the Hybrid in two trim levels, available only with the crew cab and short box. The Hybrid includes all the extras found on the LTZ while earning an EPA-estimated 23 mpg highway with its 6.0L V8, CVT, and two or four-wheel drive.2

2 Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
