SILVERADO 1500 WT - BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY
I wanted a truck to carry my motorcycle around and enjoy some local riding without having to flatten my butt riding for hours getting there. The Silverado 1500 WT (work truck) was the best choice for me. The smaller 4.3 V6 engine is good on gas and I still have the safety and cargo capacity of a full-size truck. I picked the standard cab, regular bed (not too big to drive and park around town), 2WD version, with vinyl seats (easy to clean). Comfort is really good even for a work truck and the stock audio system is surprisingly good, the same exact unit I had in my old HHR.
I was looking for a very low mileage 4X4. I found my 2009 Silverado with 6400 miles. I was particularly happy because it was a very clean, basic WT. I waned to be able to build it into the truck I felt I needed for my retirement. The only option it still needs is a good Class IV hitch so I can tow my trailer. It came with lots of up options such as the 4.8 liter V8, power windows and locks, etc. I have added a LineX bed liner, tonneau bed cover, steps and new wheels and tires. The only issue was the OEM tires, Goodyear Wrangler ST's. Those tires were positively dangerous and I believe that D.O.T. should recall them. I hated to have to spend the additional money, but the truck couldn't be safely driven on any but completely dry roads, and definitely not off-road. Why would the manufacturer put basically street tires on a 4X4??? Overall, I love the truck and would recommend a Silverado to anyone.
I consider myself to be a Ford guy when it comes to trucks but I really liked the Silverado when I saw it in the showroom. I've always said that you take Ford trucks to work and Chevy trucks to church. Well now I take my Chevy to work. It does what I ask of it with comfort and style. I must admit that it is hard getting use to the "Bow Tie" and I take a lot of ribbibng from friends for my anti-Chevy comments in the past. Dollar for dollar, a better value than the F150.
