2016 Dodge Charger Overview

The Dodge Charger lineup takes a lot of its design cues from muscle cars, and it shows in the 2016 model year. As a full-size, four-door sedan, it has well-rounded appeal, though is particularly exciting to anyone interested in retro cars. The 2016 Charger has many engine options to appeal to drivers looking to get more acceleration in their drive.

Features & Specs

The 2016 Dodge Charger base model comes with feature packages that include air conditioning, a sound system with CD player and an aux jack. The Dodge Charger SE receives aluminum wheels and an upgraded interior with LED lights for cup holders. The SXT has the same feature package with the optional LED illuminated door map pockets, which are standard on the R/T. Other available features include heated seats, power sunroof and Sirius Backseat TV system to entertain passengers with live satellite television.

Design & Performance

The 2016 Dodge Charger has surprisingly powerful acceleration to pair with its large size, creating an empowering experience for the driver. The 2016 Charger is quite smooth to drive and is very controlled on turns. The ride is steady and firm. Due to the engine appropriately maximizing powertrain, the fuel economy is not as competitive as its acceleration. The Charger comes with rear-wheel drive with a 5-speed automatic transmission standard with an 8-speed automatic as an available option. For the 2016 model year, there are four engines available across each trim level to enable potential car buyers seeking improved performance. All-wheel drive is optional to boost fuel efficiency at higher trim levels.

Powertrain & Engine

Offered with a wide range of engines and trim levels, the 2016 Dodge Charger can be customized to appeal to many audiences and preferences. The base engine in the four-door sedan is a 2.7L V6. The SE trim level offers a 3.5L V6 engine available as an option, and the same 3.5L V6 engine comes standard on the SXT. For anyone seeking higher performance, the Dodge Charger R/T comes with a 5.8L V8 engine. The Dodge Charger's highest trim level, the Dodge Charger SRT8, delivers a 6.1L V8 engine with supercharged acceleration. Each trim level operates well as a daily-use vehicle, though drivers who value performance over fuel economy should seek out the higher trim levels.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

The 2015 model received a refresh, with noticeable changes coming to the shape of the frame with a rounded grille. The 2016 Charger is still reminiscent of muscle cars from the last century, but takes additional style cues with a completely new body. The Charger is still heftier than the average midsize four-door sedan. Across all trim levels, the exterior appears the same across the board. Seating is comfortable as is the upholstery quality; the texture is more appealing and the materials are improved over previous Charger model years.
