Love my car

2004 Dodge Durango April - Las Vegas, NV 08/02/2007

I wanted a bigger car and I definitely got that with this vehicle. It does use alot of gas, but I don't mind, since the price was just right. I am only a family of two, but always have at least four to five kids in my car on the weekends and they have plenty of room.

Great SUV!!!

2013 Dodge Durango Luke Robinson - Missoula, MT 09/07/2015

I have the 2013 Durango R/T trim, and love it. I have owned it less than a month, so can't speak on the durability. It is a big vehicle, but it really doesn't feel that you are driving a large SUV, drives like a car. The V8 has plenty of power, and has great acceleration. Dodge did a great job with the interior, feels and looks like your driving a luxury vehicle from Germany, they didn't cheap out on anything.

I love my Durango!

2006 Dodge Durango Swede in the USA - Austin, TX 07/07/2008

I've owned and driven many SUVs in the past but I really have to say this one is my favorite so far. Great price, extremely comfortable, good visibility, tight steering, and while it feels big on the inside, it's not so big that you can't park in most places. Plus it looks great!

Dodge Durango Overview

The Dodge Durango is a heavy, spacious SUV with abundant features and well-constructed seats. It has a rough personality, but is styled aerodynamically. Its powerful V8-engine option gives it the extra kick it needs. For larger families who plan to spend a lot of time on city roads and highways, the Durango is one of the best options to consider.

Dodge Durango History

Around for over a decade, the Dodge Durango has seen very few changes. Though the style has been modernized with each generation, the Durango remains one of the largest and heaviest vehicles in its class.

  • The first-generation Dodge Durango was released in 1998.
  • In 2004, Dodge released a redesigned Durango to launch a second generation.
  • Since 2011, the Dodge Durango hasn't changed much.

How It Drives

Overall, the Durango stands as one of the most spacious, comfortable SUVs on the market with its three rows of seats and well-cushioned upholstery. Dodge built the truck with sound-deadening to enhance the ride too. However, there's quite a dichotomy in driving experiences when it comes to raw power and fuel efficiency. The biggest differences in the lineup are connected to the powertrains. When equipped with the V8 engine, this gargantuan can fly. When equipped with the standard V6, the Durango can feel a bit sluggish to drive.

Used Dodge Durango Value

The Durango's size brings a lot of important factors to the table, including spacious passenger seats and plenty of cargo space. But its largeness and immense weight require a lot of power and can take a toll on fuel efficiency. This can also make the V6-engine option feel strained. As a result, a V8 engine, if swapped in, will help out the experience of driving the vehicle immensely.

Still, there's a lot to like in Dodge's largest car. There are certainly plenty of newer models in the lineup that shine as far as features go, but, for the most part, the car has remained relatively the same over the years. For used car buyers, the Durango's widespread popularity will make it easy to find the right configuration and powertrain on the lot.

Design & Performance

The third-generation Dodge Durango hasn't received many changes or updates, but it does have a few trims and feature packages to choose from. The three-door SUV is available in four trim levels:

  • Dodge Durango SXT
  • Dodge Durango GT
  • Dodge Durango Citadel
  • Dodge Durango R/T

Some of the higher trims' standard features are also optional for lower trims.

Powertrain & Engine

The Durango has a range of V6 and V8 engines to choose from. With the exception of the Dodge Durango R/T, each third-generation Dodge Durango comes standard with a 3.6L V6 engine. The R/T is built with the 5.7L V8 engine standard and is optional on the Citadel. Dodge built models with the option for either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on driver preference. The towing capacity for the V8 is a maximum of 7,400 lbs. Fuel efficiency for the vehicle is 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

The Dodge Durango is one of the largest vehicles on the market. This SUV has many feature packages and trim levels, so there are plenty of combinations to choose from. Families in particular who plan to spend a lot of time on the road will enjoy how spacious this car is.

  • Seven-passenger seats are standard.
  • Second-row captain's chairs will reduce capacity to six passengers, but all passengers will have more comfort.
  • The Durango's dashboard is organized logically and conveniently.
  • The space in the third row is limited, as should be expected.
  • Seat upholstery is up to the segment's high standards.
