We got the Durango to replace a Mustange, needed more room for the car seat. The DVD system was also a good plus for the kids. We went with this over a mini-van, towing power of a truck, fun to drive- 2nd to a sports-car, and more room than a full size car. seemed like a good mix. if you need all the seats and storage, you will run out of room. if you need two seats you'll have plenty of cargo room. and still have the flex-ability to put up the extra seat when needed. have a full size truck and sports-car the MPG was not bad for me. I had the V8 hemi, that would switch to 4cyl when not needed.
My husband and I purchased this car during summer 2012 ( trading a mercedes) and I hated it! Although we needed the space for our massive family, I did not want the Durango! Reluctantly, I agreed to the purchase and began using the SUV as my primary vehicle. Needless to say, I am, now, absolutely in love with my SUV! The safety features are awesome (adaptive cruise control, front and rear cameras, side mirror safety indicators, and hands free devices). Also, the space can comfortably accomodate my huge family of 8. It's funny, you never really know the value in having an entertainment package in your vehicle until you have one; my kids absolutely love the split screen DVD player and wireless head phones! Finally, my favorite features are the hard drive for storing music, the Sirius radio system, the navigation system and the hemi/econo gas feature (I usually get 26 miles to gallon on highway)! I can easily say, this was my smartest vehicle purchase!
We needed a vehicle that could pull our 19' pleasure boat. We preferred an 8 cylinder due to that requirement alone. It has plenty of power when needed, but we are lucky if we get 11 mpg in the city, but that was our choice with the 8 cylinder engine. We purchased the Durango after speaking to our son who has worked as an auto mechanic for over 25 years. He works for a Dodge dealer in Georgia, and said it was a great vehicle. The seats are very comfortable and we love the front seat warmers with the leather package. The only down side to seating comfort is that the rear seats will not recline. Makes for a long trip if riding in the back. The third row of seats will fold under and lay flat in the very back. We have chosen to leave them that way so as to utilize the extended rear storage. We drove round trip from Oklahoma to Northern California without a single problem or concern for my family of four. I did however notice that it seems to be light and drifts when really windy. We had a Tom-Tom GPS system installed and the installer said it was one of the easiest automotive installs he has ever done, and he has been installing Audio & GPS equipment for over 12 years. We purchased a five-year extended warranty with the vehicle six months ago and have yet to use it. I do, however miss my automatic headlights and automatic dimmers, as this model has neither. All in all.... A Great Aotomobile.
