I love the look of this car, and the engine feels powerful. I don't feel like a soccer mom driving it around. There's a ton of room and it handles very well. My husband complains that the whole rear is a hatch, rather than having a tailgate and door. I have no problems with it, though. The headrests are a little too flat, but the seats are comfortable. It can feel a little sluggish accelerating, but if you give it some gas it has no trouble taking off. Chrome details and dark interior are totally the way to go.
I've owned my Nitro RT, from new. I bought it on Oct. 31, 2007. It had a couple hickups with the HVAC system. Okay. virtually every part of it was replaced under warranty. Aside from that, I've put 112,000 miles on it and had only a few small things break. Window regulator. Window button. Key FOB. I was looking at other new SUV's like the Highlander and Murano, and have decided to keep my Nitro. It's worth putting in the $3,000 of 100,000 mile maintenance on. The biggest down side to the Nitro? Suuuuuuper chinsey interior. But I guess that developement money was spent on better mechanics. I'm super happy with my RT!

2007 Dodge NitroAnonymous - Chicago, IL03/21/2015
This baby was my Mother's Day gift for 2007! Needless to say it was and still is a looker. I was coming out of an Isuzu Ascender and wanted something sporty and cute.Handles well and is responsive but with the low profile tires you feel every bump. 4 wheel drive great for midwest winters.Fully loaded with heated front seats and sunroof for Mom and the VES so the kids can watch movies in the back. All this standard for my R/T in Inferno Red. HOT!
Dodge Nitro Overview
The Dodge Nitro is a stylish compact SUV that stands out against the competition with big wheels and an aggressive stance. The Nitro gives off a strong retro design vibe. While only produced for a few years, it remains one of the most distinctive vehicles you can buy.
Dodge Nitro History
The Dodge Nitro was produced from 2007 through 2011. Boxy and substantial, it is built upon a sturdy, truck-like platform. The Dodge Nitro was initially introduced with the SXT as the base trim, but that model was renamed the SE in 2009. In 2010, this was renamed again - as the Dodge Nitro Heat.
How It Drives
Because it is smaller than many other midsize SUVs, the Dodge Nitro was praised by expert reviewers for its competitive maneuverability. However, even after Dodge altered its suspension in 2009, the Nitro's ride quality still below average for its class. Fuel economy is pretty decent for its size, but it may be inefficient compared to other midsize SUVs. The Nitro excels at looking good on the road, but not a whole lot else.
Used Dodge Nitro Value
The Dodge Nitro looks bolder than most of the competition. The engine options, unfortunately, do not enable the Nitro to perform well against other compact SUVs. The interior doesn't fare well either; other SUVs have more comfortable seating options and a smoother ride. Unless its untraditional design is more important to you than day-to-day performance, you may find more value in purchasing a used Honda CR-V or a Toyota RAV4.
Design & Performance
The Dodge Nitro's small size enables it to maneuver on winding roads very well.
Rear-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive available as an option.
The Dodge Nitro's base trim level includes standard power accessories and a feature-rich cabin.
The Dodge Nitro SLT trim level builds upon the SXT with cruise control and an overhead display.
Powertrain & Engine
Dodge offers a 3.7L V6 engine as the standard powertrain option for the Nitro. Typically, this engine is paired with a four-speed automatic. If you are disappointed with the acceleration capabilities of this engine, then, try the 4.0L V6 engine instead. It's available as an upgrade and enables a smoother, more powerful drive. The 4.0L V6 engine is installed with a five-speed automatic transmission in all cases. Despite size and power differences, both of the Nitro's engine options produce similar fuel efficiencies.
Body Style & Interior Comfort
The Dodge Nitro has a retro-styled body design.
Its small SUV model is built with truck-like design cues.
All Nitro models seat up to five passengers comfortably.
The interior can be disappointing compared to other cars in its class.
