Not a Soccer Mom SUV

I love the look of this car, and the engine feels powerful. I don't feel like a soccer mom driving it around. There's a ton of room and it handles very well. My husband complains that the whole rear is a hatch, rather than having a tailgate and door. I have no problems with it, though. The headrests are a little too flat, but the seats are comfortable. It can feel a little sluggish accelerating, but if you give it some gas it has no trouble taking off. Chrome details and dark interior are totally the way to go.

Nitro R/T

I purchased a Red Dodge Nitro R/T with 45k miles with 4x4 and leather interior. I have been very impressed with the towing capacity, power, steering and overall performance of this truck. Truck handles well in the mud, have not driven in snow yet. The aggressive stance and body fenders are very appealing. The only negative I have found so far would be how the suspension reacts when you go over a pothole or some bumps the rear end kicks out. Overall I am very impressed and happy with this truck.

Depends on how you use it

For towing this vehicle does a reasonable job - certainly not a truck though. Trailer sway is a significant obstacle due to the short wheel base and a larger safety issue on highways in states like TX where people go 10 mph over the 70 mph speed limit. For city driving the 3.7 L engine is weak, get the 4.0 L if you buy. On on-ramps or other areas where you need power there simply isn't much there for rapid acceleration. But the brakes work great; for avoiding deer that's important. Reminder: this is a 4 speed transmission so you don't get smooth shifts. If you need to do an evasive maneuver to avoid the kid on a cell phone swerving - this vehicle is not for you. Very spooky experience feeling the vehicle almost lose control at 70 mph cause a kid brought his car quickly into my lane. Loose handling at highway speeds is the issue here. Cabin noise is significant and annoying for cellular conversations. If you have a larger dog (40+ lbs) be careful with the door paneling as scratches occur easily even if rover just sticks her head out the window a bit. A nice pro is that oil changes are not too difficult once you find a method to reach your hand up into the underside to change the filter. A huge plus is that this vehicle held up excellent in a 3 car accident. My wife got hit from the front and back side at 40 mph by a car + a SUV (that's a lot of force) since the other woman's SUV didn't brake well. Our SUV took over 6000 bucks in damage but my wife didn't suffer any injuries so the Nitro took the hit. That is what a SUV should do. The woman in the car wasn't so fortunate; heavier vehicles like SUV's have a advantage even with a painful gas bill. We'll take pain at the pump over bodily injury pain.
