Reviews for 2009 Ford Explorer
2009 Ford explorer
Overall its a nice vehicle with many extra bells and whistles that make driving it fun. Its average when compared to other SUVs in its class. Love the third row seating but you have very limited cargo space when third row is activated. Negative: Explorers seem to have an issue with highway speed whistling noise that comes from the passenger side of the windshield. This is a very obnoxious loud tone that seems to come and go. And yes, I did test drive the vehicle on the highway before we purchased it and the noise did not materialize at that time. The dealership cannot or will not fix it mainly because when you take it in they cannot duplicate the noise. If you google "explorer windshield whistle" you will find many topics of conversation on it. The whistle noise and the lack of attention given to the issue by Ford is the main reason I would not recommend this vehicle.
The Ford Explorer was a great find. I had the Explorer Sport for 12 years andd needed a bigger car. This has fold down 3rd row seating for extra storage. It's just what I was looking for. It's easy to handle in the snow up the mountain too. I don't have to put on chains anymore, just push a button an I'm in 4x4. It feels like a luxury car, seats are comfortable for the long drives, it has a smooth shifting automatic transmission. (I've always has a stick) It's a joy to drive. Even my husband likes to drive it & he drives big rigs. He doesn't feel cramped into the car, He's 6ft & it has a lot of leg room.
My Carmax Adventure
This is actually the second vehicle that I have purchased from CarMax and as awesome as the first experience was, the second seemed even more rewarding. From start to finish it was great. I could sit in the comfort of my own home and view the inventory and know exactly what I was looking at with all the photos and detail text that is with each vehicle on the website. I sent a simply e-mail and got a quick, very polite (not pushy in anyway) responding e-mail and we set up a time to view the vehicle and take it for a test drive. From that point, we quickly moved through the CarMax loan questionnaire and had numerous banks offering us loans. We picked the best and signed papers and we were driving our new vehicle home. People who claim they hate car shopping have obviously never shopped at CarMax.
