I downsized from a very large SUV to this Escape XLT. I am still getting used to it, but I enjoy driving it a lot. I got the V6 so there is plenty of power for merging onto the highway, I like that it has a more square SUV look rather than the car look of some of the crossovers. It's very roomy inside, so I can still fill up the cargo area with groceries or coolers for traveling. I do find the seats a bit harder than the larger SUV I had and there is a bit more noise in the cabin area from the engine, but those would by my only complaints so far. I love the sync function for hands-free talking on the phone. The power adjustable seats and blind spot mirrors make it a breeze to drive comfortably.
Powershift 6-speed transmission has marked slippage and doesn't shift at appropriate times. Purchased in December with 11,000 miles on it. Manufacturer recall for transmission slippage reset--it had enough slippage to warrant a reset in February. After first reset, having increasing problems with the transmission slippage, another reset in June. Slipping again, but told that car has to fail by at least 350 rpm as recorded by the IDS Ride-Along System. So, I have to wait until the transmission fails beyond threshold to warrant a mechanical repair (rebuild transmission) instead of being constantly without my car while they keep doing an electronic system reset!
This truck gets incredible mileage. There's no way around it. Commuting is stop-and-go for me with 8 miles of stoplights each way. I easily get 25 mpg. Though I don't love the slower acceleration, it's worth it to get that kind of mileage. Plus, the cab is very comfortable for being a smaller vehicle. I'm 6'1" and have plenty of space! If you need to haul medium-sized items, this is definitely a winner. Its lower clearance makes loading heavy items a breeze. If you're looking for a powerful truck that makes you feel important and lets you look down on other people, this isn't the right one for you. But if you're looking for a small, reliable hauler that's easy to maintain, you just might fall in love.
