2009 Ford FocusNolen Purvis - Loma Linda, CA09/28/2016
As the title states, the car is great for a first time owner, or if you just need a daily driver, regardless of distance. In fact, I appreciate this car so much that I am going to purchase my 2nd one this weekend as the first was in a bad accident. Overall averages including short trips to grocery store, I was getting about 38mpg in a manual transmission. The gear box is tough enough, and the parts are cheap. If you buy this car around 60k miles, be prepared to replace the struts, and maybe tires. These went out within 9k miles. To those saying the car's interior lights don't come on when opening a door, this is actually false. The dimmer switch by your headlight switch needs to be maxed out. One con would be power with a fully loaded car.
2010 Ford FocusLynelle V - Clackamas, OR08/18/2015
It's a great car! audio plays really nice and has a setting to adjust depending on the outside volume. Seats are comfy. Large trunk. 3 people can fit comfortably in the back instead of the usual sardines in a can feeling. Steering/turns are great. Brakes really well.
Good car, bad transmission
2013 Ford FocusBayley Walker - Tucson, AZ06/27/2015
The Ford focus uses a dry clutch with a combination of manual and automatic transmissions. I started experiencing issues with the clutch a month after purchase. Turns out, my very young car with under 40,000 miles needs a new clutch. Dug around and it's a very common problem and there is currently a class action against ford because of the clutch and transmission issues. My car has issues shifting, making it scary to drive.
