Was interested in going Hybrid to save gas on my 46-mile daily round-trip commute, but I am a big guy and did not want to sacrifice comfort. The Ford Fusion Hybrid, a sedan with plenty of interior space, fit the bill. But the price of a new one was way too steep for my pocketbook and finding a used one was not easy (apparently the owners hang on to them.)
My wish came true in finding a 2010 with 53,000 miles in good condition at a Carmax about an hour from my home. I've cut my gas costs by about one-third from the old Buick I was driving, which, while it will not cover the payments, covers a big chunk of them. Nice ride. The transition from electric to gas operation is smooth. The car rides nice and quiet and I am getting about the 37 mpg highway, 41 mpg local promised. A few weeks in, I am very happy with the purchase.
The environmental benefits of hybrid vehicles appeal to two types of car buyers: the driver who is concerned about climate change and pollution, and the wallet-conscious driver who wants to capitalize on the impressive fuel economy that hybrids offer.
