The Shelby GT500 is not for everyone, but the select few who can afford one, and insure one are lucky. I have no tickets and am in my 60's and the insurance is $1200.00 per year, very reasonable. In performance, It is a Super Car by my definition. I will never be able to drive it as fast as it is cable of going. I had it up to 140 mph and could have buried the speedo (it goes to 160) it is a 185-190 mph capable automobile. 0-60 is close to as much fun you can have with your clothes on! It is simply an amazing car! The car is nimble in every test that I have put it through, and can stop on a dime and give you nine cents change with the Brembo Brakes. This is a complex machine, but I have never had a bit of trouble. BUY ONE!!!
I did my research on this car and several magazines called it the best mustang ever made. They even put it up against a 2013 GT500 and chose the Boss over the Shelby. I am greatly impressed with this car. The recaros are a must. When you drive this car you feel like you are in a race car, because you are. The 444 hp that this beast produces is superior to nearly all cars on the road. On the track it is just as amazing. There are people who spend over $100k to have a vehicle with less performance and track ability than this (ie Porsche). If you are looking for an amazing car get a Boss 302, but good luck finding one.
This car was an "upgrade" from a 1988 Mustang (Foxbody), that I inherited from my husband's grandmother. I had always planned to replace the '88 Mustang with a small SUV, such as an Escape, but The Husband urged me to at least test drive a less practical choice. I fell in love with the first Mustang I drove, and it is as if the car was designed and built for me. Prior to this car, I had viewed driving as a means of getting from point A to point B...now it has become a delight.
