The gas is not much better than a V8. Made of cheap plastic on the interior. Drive is average. I have had 2 90 model ford rangers, 1 nissan frontier, 1 toyota tacoma and now the canyon. the fords were more comfortable. the tacoma was a better drive and the frontier had more get up and go. This was bought for family purposes and is less expensive than either tacoma or frontier crew cabs. it serves the purpose but not much else.
Bought the crew-cab Canyon New in 2006....I Had the 2006 with the 3.5 litre 5-cylinder, and it was a fantastic vehicle. This truck lived with us for nearly 5 years, did everything we asked it to, with class, and and total confidence of character. Do not forsake the 3.5 L 5- cyl. engine, it is speacially biult by GMC to power this pickup, and the Hummer H3. The 3.5L is "rock solid" strong and powerful in this vehicle. I often had passengers ask which V-8 I had under the hood...they were always amazed when I told then they were riding in a five cylinder truck....I cannot strees enough about the performance, good mileage...4-doors, seating for 5, smooth running, quiet ride, and push-button 4-wheel drive that tackles incredibly adverse on and off-road conditions (inclusing our 30 inches of snowstorm ) last winter...I never once got stuck, went everywhere, never even shoveled my driveway-didn't need to...takes you where you need to go with the traction and stability of a mountain goat. We loaded it up and brought our kids hundreds of miles to and from college for several years......I could go on and on with praises for this truck....suffice it to say that it was money very well spent, and no other brand in it's class can match it!...nobody!!! Do not waste a single cent on a Toyota, Nissan, Ford, etc....they are just buckets of bolts when put up against this absolutely extroadinary and solid truck....after all, think about it...GMC is a Truck company...they only make trucks and suvs....been doin'just that for decades! the other guy's are just copycat "wannabe's".....
I have enjoyed my truck thus far. It does what I bought it to do. I have had no problems.
