Envoy Denali

Hopper - Middle Tennessee 11/14/2010

All things considered, the Envoy Denali is an above average mid-size SUV. Towing power is on par with my previous vehicle ('01 Yukon) and is complimented with an air ride auto leveling system. Highway mileage leaves a bit to be desired but the vehicle has plenty of power with the 5.3l Vortec under the hood; passing with a trailor isn't an issue. The inerior is quite comfortable and nicely trimmed with the woodgrain accents, however; the steering wheel is the only real wood trim. The center console is a bit cramped with the parking brake lever tighly placed against the passenger seat. The cup holders also are precarious, as they are oddly placed; one is forward of the shifter (very cramped and cumbersome) and the other aft of the shifter tighly against the center console storage. The forward cup holder blocks the 2WD/4WD selector and the VERY small tray and the 12V outlet is cumbersome as well. The back seating is modestly spacious, but the overhead DVD player seems to be HUGE as it's barely able to clear the front seat head rest (it seems very far foward). From the back seat, it's placed nicely though. Rear cargo space is ample for 4 people. If utilizing the option to fold down the rear seats for more cargo is what you have in mind, be aware the rear seats, although they fold down, do not reach a completely horizontal position. They remain about 5-10 degrees above horizontal. My biggest complaint is, there are very few options to "lift" the vehicle to achieve more ground clearance. Having low placed color matched running boards, this would not be a good choice if you plan to drive in conditions worse than an old country road. It has the power, but not the clearance. If you want a mid-size SUV with good power, an excellent highway comfort factor, and modest cargo space, in a 4WD, this is your vehicle. If you plan to hit the back country trails, i.e. MOAB, it's not for you!

How I Roll now!

I purchased a 2006 GMC Envoy Denali in February. The exterior is black w/ alloy wheels, fog lights, tow hitch- all very well maintained. Interior is black leather, power everything, and comfortable seating for a family of 5 for long periods of travel. Flip down screen DVD player for rear passenger viewing makes a long trip seem shorter. The engine has the capabilities of supplying power when needed with a 5.3 liter V-8. It also comes with 2wheel dr. high, 4 wheel high/low. I am very impressed with the overall comfort and performance of the Denali. I would recommend to potential buyers to at least test drive an Envoy and draw their own conclusion. I personally give it a 10 out of 10 overall.

After having the vehicle a month, I am so far very pleased in comparison to the Ford Explorer that this vehicle replaced. The larger driver compartment is much more comfortable than my old vehicle. The only downfall so far is the driver side armrest, which is a little to far away for a long drive to be comfortable.
