Giant people mover

Upgraded from a minivan and loving it! Better gas mileage due to V8 variable transmission (changes from V8 to V4 after you get going).

It's a Truck

I purchased the 2wd version based upon consumer reports ranking it higher than the 4wd version.I have over 30k miles on it this year alone and it has been trouble free. It rides very nice on long trips and I average 18 MPG overall. It is a Silverado pickup so I love the spacious interior and truck like driving experience. Driving to Disneyworld this year with the whole family was great. We also moved into a new home and having the Yukon XL to transport stuff was invaluable. The Bose sound system is very good but the radio technology is outdated. The interior fit and finish is solid and the seats comfortable except the smallish third row, but who cares. The cargo space behind the third row is quite impressive in XL and holds all of my kids sports gear and luggage. The center console is just a junk collector and the interior needs more cubbyhole spaces. The rearview camera is a useful feature considering the size of the truck. My wife hates parking the behemoth however. I regret not having the the power lift gate but releasing just the rear window is some help instead of constantly opening and closing the heavy rear. Traction was awful last winter and I am hoping the original Goodyear OEM tires contributed to the poor traction. I just replaced the tires at 60k with Michelin LTZ tires. It is an expensive truck to buy and poor gas mileage makes the cost of ownership very high but the added space for my family has been welcomed. If you live outside of the snow belt, I don't see any reason to buy the more unreliable 4wd but driving the 2wd version here in Chicagoland has been an adventure last winter.
