I've driven a Nissan Sentra for the last 20 years. If one had been available when I was looking at cars, I probably would have bought it. Instead I decided to spend more and get a Honda. I can't say there is much difference between the two cars, but I'm hoping the Honda will hold its value longer. I've only had it three months so I can't talk about the repair costs or even mileage, but I am enjoying my Civic and think I made the right choice.

I am a two-time Honda owner. I drove an Accord for more than a decade and when it was time to retire it I decided to downsize to the Civic. Even though my Civic lacked the bells and whistles that my Accord had (sunroof, leather interior, etc.) I thought it was a great car. Unfortunately, I only had the chance to drive it for three months before it was totaled in a HORRIBLE crash. I was not seriously injured in the wreck. For this reason I will be buying another Honda Civic.
Great family sedan. Wish they had black interior options since gray and beige and a three year old don't mesh well, but everything about the car is great. Drives perfect, and it even tells me what my oil life is! All around great drive and is a wonderfully reliable car.
2012 Honda Civic Overview
The Honda Civic isn't just one of the longest-produced models for the Honda automaker - it's one of the longest-produced vehicles currently still on the market today in the entire industry. And it's very popular. In fact, the automaker moves so many that the Honda Civic would be among the biggest in the US if it were counted as a separate brand and not just a model. Specifically, the Civic made its debut in the 1972 model year, replacing the former Honda N600 and Z600 models. It was considered a subcompact car from 1972 to 2000, then classified as a compact car from the beginning of its seventh generation in 2000 to present day, where it's currently in its 10th generation. Currently, the Civic falls in Honda's vehicle lineup between the smaller Fit and the larger, mid-size Accord.

Though the Civic made its debut in model year 1972, it has since encompassed 10 generations and has been designed and engineered to be larger and more upscale over time.
The 1972 Civic was originally introduced as a two-door coupe. Shortly after its release, it was sold as a three-door hatchback.
Upon its introduction to the market, it was lauded for its fuel efficiency and reliability. Today, however, while it still achieves excellent fuel economy, it's also synonymous with a sport-like driving style and performance.
The 2012 Civic, which is part of Honda's ninth generation of Accord models, was originally designed to be sleek and aerodynamic.
Ninth-generation Civics are available in both coupe and sedan models.
How It Drives
The 2012 Civic rides a bit smoother than its predecessor. Despite a more rigid frame, this is attributed to a revamped rear suspension and adjustments to its front struts. It also drives quieter than previous models due to enhanced sound-deadening features. Despite these improvements, there's a general consensus that the 2012 Civic is less sporty and a bit less fun to drive compared to previous models.
Used 2012 Honda Civic Value
The original MSRP for a 2012 Honda Civic DX sedan started at $16,555. In good condition, the vehicle is valued anywhere from about $4,800 to $5,700. A coupe version of the Civic DX is valued used at a slightly smaller price point, ranging from about $4,500 to $5,380.
Design & Performance
Since the 2012 Civic comes in both coupe and sedan body styles, there are lots of different vehicle versions available, something that its segment competitors can't boast.
The standard 1.8L four-cylinder engine generates 140 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque.
The Civic comes in models with different fuel source options. For instance, drivers can choose from gas-powered, compressed natural gas (CNG), or hybrid models.
Compared to the other versions of the 2012 Civic, the hybrid models have more of an integrated front bumper and various other aerodynamic features that help it achieve better fuel economy.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the biggest gains are experienced with the Civic high-efficiency model, which achieves 29 mpg city and up to 41 mpg highway. The hybrid bests this at 44 mpg in both city and highway conditions.
Powertrain & Engine
As noted previously, the standard engine on the 2012 Civic is a 1.8L four-cylinder. The Si model, a performance version of the Civic, features a 2.4-liter under the hood, with enhanced horsepower and torque. The Hybrid Civic comes equipped with a 1.5L four-cylinder. In terms of transmission, drivers can choose between either a five-speed manual or automatic. The Si model comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
Body Style & Interior Comfort
DX, LX, EX, and performance Si trims are available in both the coupe and sedan models. Hybrid models are only available on sedan versions of the Civic.
While the 2012 Civic's style isn't a shakeup of the way compact vehicles look, it has evolved similarly to the style of other vehicles in its class.
On the interior, Civic sedan drivers can experience up to 3.5 more cubic feet depending on the model they choose over pre-2012 models. The main beneficiary of this added space is the backseat passenger, who gets more leg room. The coupe, conversely, loses about a cubic foot of cabin space over previous models.
The Civic's interior isn't anything too special. In terms of upholstery, leather is only offered on the EX trim. The LX, EX, and hybrid versions include Honda's i-MID controller. A touch navigation system is also optional.
