I have always driven a large SUV. I have owned several Ford Expeditions. I decided it was time to downsize when the price of gas kept going up and now that my children are grown, there was no need for such a large SUV. I went to my local Honda Dealership to just look around. On the showroom floor was the most beautiful mid size blue SUV I had ever seen. I walked over to the vehicle to take a closer look. To my surprise, it was a 2011 Honda Pilot EXL. I could not believe how stylish it looked and the space it had in it for a smaller SUV. Remember, I was use to an Expedition. The Pilot could seat 8 passengers just like the Expedition could, but without the high price of putting gas in it. I was amazed at the amenities it had on it. I also have owned a Toyota Sequoia that came with no amenities. I did not even know what amenities were until I purchased my 2011 Pilot. Mine already had the running boards that light up when you hit the keypad to unlock the door. It also came with heated seats, sunroof, xm satelite radio. (I don't have to buy one of those gadgets to get satelite radio.) A locking gas cap, a back up camera on the rearview mirror (that was a real surprise to me), it also has the ECO feature where 3 of the cylinders cut off when you are cruising to save gas! I love the 6 CD changer, cruise control and it already has the daytime running lights on it. I had to put daytime running lights on my Expedition. It also already on it the window vent covers so that you can leave your windows cracked to let the heat out and it keeps the rain out as well. I have always had to buy those at the auto store and have my son install them on every SUV I have ever owned!!! This Pilot came ready to go with everything. I have not had to add anything to this SUV. It also has a stripe going down both sides of the vehichle. Mine is a navy blue color. I love the color and the performance of this vehicle. It is sooooo easy to handle. It turns on a dime and is a cinch to park. I always had a hard time parking my larger SUV's. I had to pull in, back up and straighten up and pull forward again. Not with this Pilot. It has great pick up for a 6 cylinder vehicle. I was amazed at how fast you can get on the freeway. The pick up is there when you need it. The gas mileage is great. I realize that some people think the gas mileage is not that great for this size SUV, but remember after driving a Sequoia and Expedition, I think the gas mileage is great. I love the third row seat being there. I don't always need the 3rd row seat, but I am glad that I have the option to use it or not. Some SUV's in the same size category as the Pilot do not have a 3rd row. It is not a big deal, but I like having the option to use it if I am carrying 6 or more passengers. If I am not using the 3rd row, I fold it down for extra cargo space. I will probably keep this vehichle for 5 or 6 years before trading it for another one. When I do trade, I want the Touring edition Pilot. Hopefully, by then I will have grandchildren and I will need the DVD player. I love my blue, but I think my next one will be white. I really can't think of anything that Honda could do to improve the vehicle. It is a great value for the money you spend and after all it is a HONDA!! They are known for their dependability and reliability. I expect to get many years of good service from this SUV. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a mid size SUV. The Pilot is way under rated. I had NO idea what a great vehicle it would be and all the amenities that it came with. Do not hesitate to test drive one and keep it overnight. You will be amazed just as I was. This is my first Honda purchase, but I can assure you that it will not be my last. Even my 2 grown sons who are car critics love my Pilot. They both said that this car is under rated. They never pass up an opportunity to drive my car when I need them to run an errand for me. If my 2 grown sons who are car critics like it, then you know it worth test driving one so you can decide for yourself!! Hope to see you on the road in your new Pilot and don't forget to wave to me!!
We searched for a 3rd row SUV and compared the Pilot with the Toyota Highlander and the GMC Acadia. We chose this one because it had more space for 2nd and 3rd row seating and considerable more space in the back. We liked the Acadia a lot as well, but it didn't have the same reputation as a dependable, long-lasting SUV. We've had it for a few months now and still love it.
