In the past 10 years I have owned a Honda Passport, a Nissan Stanza, a Jeep Wrangler and a Honda Civic Si coupe and this is the first time in I can say "I LOVE THIS CAR". The inline 5 is more than enough power for city driving and does very well on the highway. Just this last week (March 2010) I drove from Oklahoma City to Galveston and averaged 18 miles per gallon. In the city I average about 15. I would recommend this car to any looking for a comfortable, beefy SUV with constant 4 wheel drive.
Nothing I've read about these vehicles is true. To the contrary, my 2007 H2 SUT is quiet, smooth, & roomy. Visibility is excellent; the vertical windshield practically sweeps rain away without the windshield wipers. Yes, gas mileage is poor compared to an Aveo or HHR, but at 12.5 mpg overall is quite consistent given its weight & full time 4WD. I've driven full size Blazers & 4WD trucks with 4.11 gears that got much worse gas mileage & rode twice as rough. The off-road tires do not roar at highway speeds, & I can cruise at highway speeds with everyday traffic. No, it's not a Cadillac, but it handles surprisingly crisp for a vehicle its size. Just remember, the same rules apply to these vehicles as to any extra-sized truck; give yourself plenty of braking distance & avoid tight parking places. I do recommend fish-eye mirror accessories to the side view mirrors. I think it's a crime these vehicles were victimized as brutish excesses, and it's a shame they were discontinued. I'm having tons-o-fun with mine.
When I used to see the commercials from Hummer saying "Hummer - Like No Other" I used to think, yeah right. This has been the most Amazing vehicle that I have ever owned! It has all of the Luxury and comforts of a high end sedan, but with its ALL time 4wheel drive - its capable of any on or off road situation. 5 cylinder engine has been REALLY Friendly on gas!!! Awesome SUV!
