My Little Red Buggy

I like it so far; however it is a big change from my SUV in terms of sitting down so low. It seems to have great pickup and maneuverability and is a good grocery/kid getter. The gas mileage is not quite as good as I had hoped and seems to be hovering between 21-28MPG with most of our driving being highways 45-55mpg

my 2010 elentra

I like the gas milage. I like its appearance. It can handle the hills on 5th gear. The last one I had, I didn't have a tune-up in 5 years and it still ran great. That's why I bought one this year.

Leading value in this class

In my opinion, the Elantra is the leading value in this class. Size wise compares favorably with Civic and Corolla. Seats 5 comfortably with a cavernous trunk for a compact. 4 cyl engine could use a bit more oomph with the automatic drivetrain, but provides very acceptable mileage. In combined city and highway driving, I have averaged right on 30 mpg. Controlled highway speeds probably return about 4-5 mpg better. Price beats new Ford Fiesta, and older Focus, also Honda Fit. Price also comes in below Mazda 2 and 3. Toyota Yaris and Nissan Versa are same price range but a notch below Elantra in size, power, amenities, comfort, fit and finish. Elantra comes with a makeover for 2011 with Hyundai ever improving style, fit and finish. Overall a terrific choice for pre-owned priced in the low teens, or new in the mid teens. New car owners get a 6 yr / 100K warranty, pre-owned cars 6 yr / 60K warranty. I consider the car disposable after 5 yr, when I suspect book value will be zilch, but some owners report very high mileage, and good longevity.
