Knew I was going to buy a Hyundai because of the positive reports I had read about their cars and warranty. I was set on the Santa Fe, but at the last minute decided to go with the Veracruz. It is a little bigger and seemed to get the same mileage rating, more or less. I test drove both models and absolutely loved the way the Veracruz handled and how comfortable it is. Too bad I didn't have that third row seating when my kids were younger, but it is a nice feature even without lots of kids. I always wish to get better mileage, but I need a car to fit my 4 dogs so that is the sacrifice I make driving a bigger car. I get about 20 MPG with 50-50 split of city/freeway driving.
I was unsure about buying a Hyundai, as I had a little one back in the day, and it was a piece of junk! But, just one test drive and I was smitten. The Limited version that I purchased comes with every luxury extra that I could dream of. It's beautiful on the inside and the outside. My kids love the TV, and the wireless earphones make the back seat quieter than it's ever been with two boys! No more fighting! The third row of seats has already come in handy for driving around friends, and when I go to the grocery store, it folds down VERY easily to load all my groceries. I have been very happy with the gas mileage, and the handling. It turns tighter than my Toyota Avalon, and I love the fact that it sits high, but does not ride like a truck. If you are not sure because it's a Hyundai, give it a test drive. I'm sure it will win you over too.
In the past we have been big supporters of Toyotas and Hondas. We like to drive our cars for a long time and expect quality all around. I had never even heard of a Veracruz before my father-in-law (in the auto biz) suggested we look at Hyundai's. He said they are just as good quality for less price tag. We started research and found that the Veracruz model suited our growing family's needs. We went for a test drive and fell in love! It has every bell, whistle and convenience, some I didn't know even existed! Certainly many more than I would have dreamed we could have afforded. Two of my friends have Lexus's and they were very impressed with my Veracruz. It actually has more features, with less price! I highly recommend this car. I have two small boys and one on the way and expect to drive this for many years.
