Luxury crossover with a personal and sporty touch

The Infiniti EX35 is billed as a personal luxury crossover. What you get is a small, tight package of sporty handling and solid performance, what you'd expect from an Infiniti, but also tight dimensions on the inside, in form of mediocre rear leg room, and smallish cargo area. For light travelers, singles and couples mostly, it's acceptable, as they are the target customers. The EX35 is quick, with it's 297hp 3.5L V6 and 5-speed Automatic with Sport and Manual modes. The suspension is tuned on the firm side, to maintain those sporty characteristics. This is fine until you start hitting those badly paved or potted roads, where the EX35 becomes unsettled and jumpy. It's nearly 2-ton weight doesn't help much either. Beyond that, you're treated to one of the nicer interiors available in this segment. A beautifully-designed center stack waterfalls down between the comfortable and nicely-tailored leather seats (with seat heat). The rear seats fold down manually or using the power fold-down button from the cargo area, and can be raised either manually, or again through a power return-to-upright buttons in the cargo area or the center console, behind the shifter next to the seat heat buttons. This car is ideal for those who prefer smaller, sporty cars, or sports sedans, and want a little versatility without stepping up to an SUV or an SUV crossover. Those who are looking for a comfortable highway cruiser that absorbs the bumps better look elsewhere. Comfort seems to improve with the standard 17" wheels, but I've only tried the 18"s, which are part of a package that also adds Bi-Xenon headlights.

Definite Upgrade

We traded an 06 Passat for the 08 EX-35. It is important to note the major differences between the two. The Infiniti EX-35 has more technology and luxury features than the Passat but, the Passat had more storage and acceleration. The seat warmers in the Passat had 5 settings the highest of which was hot enough that it could not be used for extended lengths of time. The seat warmers in the Infiniti just don't get quite warm enough. The bluetooth technology, navigation system, audio hard drive, reverse camera, lane departure control and active cruise control in the EX-35 are all features that we enjoy greatly. Although some of the features in the Passat outshine the features in the EX-35 overall the amount of features equipped in the EX-35 make it a definite upgrade.
