Fun to drive, if a bit thirsty
I purchased a 2011 M37x AWD model. Overall, a terrific car, distinctive and attractive exterior styling (to my eye) although I agree the car looks best when wearing the 20-inch wheels only available on the sport model. The interior cabin is beautifully designed and appointed, with tons of features. If you live in a place with even moderately cold winters, once you use it I guarantee you will promise yourself that you will never buy another car without a heated steering wheel. The iPod interface is the best I have used, though the base Bose stereo in the touring package is a bit boomy -- the deluxe touring package adds additional speakers and I think sounds better. The seats are comfortable although they seem proportioned for larger individuals; with the car's athletic performance, I wish the seats were more deeply bolstered, and that they were a bit deeper in the thigh. Back seat is roomy and can take areas-facing car seat and still give driver or passenger plenty of legroom. Trunk is a bit smaller than you'd expect from such a big sedan. Performance-wise, the car is a joy to drive; with ample torque and accelleration from the 330 hp V6. Handling is great and the car has a good road feel withouth transmitting every bump to the occupants. On the highway, sometimes the 7 speed transmission has trouble deciding what gear it wants to be in when you apply throttle suddenly (as when passing) and can result in a slight lag before dropping from 7th to 5th, when the car will take off like a rocket. The engine has a great note in stop and go traffic and sound is well-controlled on the highway by active noise canceling. My commute is almost all stop and go driving, and I have found it hard not to use all that engine power, so my gas mileage is below the EPA estimates -- I only average about 17 MPG combined with about 20% highway driving; but I have a heavy foot and I can promise you it's a fun trip. Overall, a beautiful car to look at and drive -- if fuel economy is your primary concern, look for a car with a smaller engine or have more willpower than I do!
The Switch from BMW to M37
I traded in my beautiful 2008 335i BMW for my gorgeous 2011 Infiniti M37 aftrr knly owning it for one year. IMO the drive in a BMW is unmatched, the German engineering is without question one of the best I've driven. (Here comes the but), however the technology inside the bmw leaves alot to be desired. A current BMW with hard drive Nav and mp3 storage, XM radio, memory heated and cooling seating, and road awareness features would cost me a fortune. I dont feel like I've compromised quality for quantity. My M37 drives beautifully, turns heads and is packed with features. I recommendyou you test drive with an open mind be amazed.
