The 2006 Jaguar XJ8 is a fantastic car, and the Super V8 and Vanden Plas versions are simply spectacular. While the ergonomics and controls layout have been called "quirky", it only adds to the charm of this marvelous vehicle. After a while, you get used to where all the buttons that control the bells and whistles are and you settle in just fine. Gone are the electrical gremlins of Jaguars past. Everything works as it should and the car has a personality simply not found in its German or Asian competition. The 'total package' puts the Jaguar in a league of its own. Larger, more powerful, and lighter than the previous XJ, and improved in every way. I previously owned an 80's XJ and occasionally suffered through its maladies, and the new XJ has all of its charms without its demons. The ride in the new XJ is still taught and sporty, but not as soft as previous XJ's. The supercharged V8 has seemingly unlimited reserves of power and it takes some practice to launch it from a stop, on a hill, without snapping your head back into the power adjustable headrest. The traction control, radar cruise control, and other electronics are marvelous. The wood and leather are sumptuous. The seats are very comfortable, but the power seat, peddle, and steering wheel adjustments limit the seat to anyone under 6'1" or so. Handling, trunk space, and rear leg room in the XJ are superior to its competition. All in all, a fabulous car. The true appeal of a car shows itself in a test drive, so I recommend that you do just that.
We've had our XJ8 Vanden Plas for a couple months now. My wife loved the looks of the car immediately. The test drive did the rest. Simply an amazing car. The drive is smooth as silk. Quiet, refined, comfortable. This is the only Jaguar either of us has ever owned or driven and the price was a bit more than what we were budgeting up front, but with only 12,000 miles on the odometer and all the ammenities and awesome ride, it was worth the little extra. If you have the opportunity to get one of these at a decent price and you haven't really seriously considered buying or even test driving one, take a look. Go for a drive. You'll missing out on something special if you don't at least try it out.
The best car I've ever owned!!! Sporty, elegant, and high performance
