We are really enjoying this car. It is smooth and strong and very attractive. The seats are very comfortable and can be adjusted to fit nearly anyone. We've had a few inconsistent minor glitches with the electronics and we disagree with some of the interface design choices. We've had the opportunity to go on non-competitive group drives with Ferraris, Maseratis, Porsches and the like and the 2010 Jaguar XKR stands up favorably in this group.
I've had the car for seven months now and have some observations. First, if you want attention, buy this car. It's sexy and gorgeous and attracts attention, without a doubt. I have never seen so many heads turn. It's no wonder - the same guy who designed the Aston Martin DB7 and Aston Martin Vantage also designed this car (Ian Callum). The ride is excellent. If you get one with the "CATS" Active Suspension, you will appreciate the fact that it's smooth as glass cruising down the road, but tightens up in the turns when you want to have some fun. The engine sounds wonderful and has adequate power. If you can get an XKR, do so - you will appreciate the extra horsepower. In retrospect, I wish I'd have waited for an XKR, rather than the regular XK. That said, the XK does give reasonable performance. The dual-clutch automatic transmission shifts quickly and the paddle shifters are fun to use. You can keep it in "D" for effortless cruising, sport mode for more aggressive shifting, or shift the gears yourself, whatever mode you're in. Mileage is good. On a trip this past summer, I got 32 MPG! Around town, expect low 20's, maybe lower if you enjoy using the GO pedal. Forget about the back seat - no adult or teenager will fit back there. Only a child who is too big for his car seat will possibly fit. Not a big deal if it's just you and your spouse in the car most of the time. Trunk space is ample - not huge, but not small either. Of course, this is very subjective, depending on what you're used to. This car seems to be very dependent on having a strong battery. When the voltage gets low, the electrical gremlins come out. Overall, however, it is a reliable vehicle. In reality, if you can comfortably afford this car, you can also afford any minor repairs. If you're struggling to afford the car, get the warranty, just in case. The engine is bulletproof and so is the transmission, so don't expect issues with those, but the thermostat housing is made of plastic and is a common issue, as well as the A/C drain hose (which can clog up). If I could do it again would I buy this car? You bet.
The car is beautiful to look at and has 510 hp of the smoothest power you can imagine. There is leather everywhere, the seats are great and the electronics are superb.
