2009 Jeep CommanderCara R. - Mason Neck Virginia11/06/2010
We rented one in Fla. on vacation this summer and I really liked it. I started doing my research and decided to get one with all the bells and whistles. It drives really smooth and is very comfortable. I didn't realize you could get so many luxuries in a car without spending tons of money. It was in pristine shape and had low mileage. The only complaint that I have is that I got the 8 cylinder and it uses alot of gas. But that was my own fault. They do have 6 cylinders but I couldn't find a 6 cylinder with all the upgrades I wanted. Also the 3rd row seats are best for kids. An adult can't really sit in them and be comfortable for a long trip. Plus if there are people in the 3rd row there is no cargo space. The very back windows do not open either so it can tend to get a little claustrophobic. Besides that I love my car!!
2007 Jeep Commander has optional third roll seating which I love seats seven but can be folded down for more storage(second and third roll). I wish it was a little better on gas but I bought the V6 and expected better gas mileage.
Jeep Commander Overview
Jeep's well-known reputation for making the best off-road vehicles continues with its latest SUV, the Commander. The Commander holds a superior presence with its off-road utility, and it comfortably seats up to seven adults. As one of the best trailblazers in its class, the Jeep Commander is great for avid campers who are interested in new adventures.
Jeep Commander History
The Jeep Commander debuted in 2006 but was discontinued in the 2010 model year. The Limited trim level was introduced during the first generation. Similarly, the 5.7L V8 engine increased in horsepower and torque the same year. The Overland trim level was also introduced a year after the Commander's debut.
How It Drives
The Jeep Commander is most often praised for its off-road capabilities and available power options. The ride quality is also quite smooth for a vehicle of its size. Although it's not a sports car, the Commanderhas competent on-road handling. The cabin quality and included feature are average for its class, and passengers will enjoy that the Commander is the most spacious SUV Jeep has produced.
Used Jeep Commander Value
Despite being discontinued in 2010, a used Jeep Commander is still quite competitive against other SUVs even though it may not be as off-road ready. Though surpassed by many of today's well-known full-size crossover SUVs, a used Jeep Commander is still a versatile vehicle for outdoor enthusiasts.
Design & Performance
The Jeep Commander is typically equipped with all-wheel drive across all trim levels.
The Commander's frame is built to be extremely sturdyable to take you to any trailhead without breaking a sweat.
The Jeep Commander Sport comes standard with power accessories and seats.
The Jeep Commander Limited trim level adds a power sunroof with skylights for the second row.
As its most powerful trim, the Jeep Commander Overland only comes with the best engine.
Powertrain & Engine
The base Jeep Commander model comes standard with a 3.7L V6 engine. If you are seeking more power, but don't want to go up a trim level, Jeep offers an optional upgrade to a 4.7L V8 engine. If that's still not enough, the Limited and Overland models of the Jeep Commander have even more power due to the optional 5.7L V8 engine.
Body Style & Interior Comfort
Cargo space is expansive, but nonetheless unremarkable in the midsize SUV class.
The Jeep Commander has three rows of seating and can carry up to seven passengers.
The Commander's seats are quite comfortable.
There is ample legroom for the first two rows, but the third row may be best reserved for children.
