We compared the 2007 Compass against a Used 2005 RAV 4 & 2007 Hyundai Tuscon. Compass performed the same as the Hyundai, but at less cost. Compass offered a more comfortable ride for the driver than the Used 2005 RAV 4 at nearly the same cost. The Compass offers better value than expected.
The design of the center console is rather ineffective, but it's a minor detail. Front dash is plastic and "old school". Dials and controls are minimal when compared to most new vehicles, but nothing is inconvenient.
Compass is great for the young, active couple in their 20's & 30's. Wife & I love it, especially while driving around on the "frozen tundra".
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 70th Anniv. Edition
2011 Jeep Grand CherokeeRick in ATL - Atlanta, GA01/06/2012
We decided on this model vs. the lower-priced models and also vs. the Overland because we thought it was in the "sweet spot" for amenities/features, and because we really liked the deep bronze color available only in this trim level.
We've had it for about two months now, and it's been a great experience. Feels extremely stable and firm without being harsh on pockmarked terrain (and Atlanta has a lot of that, actually). Very good climate controls and gauges. Great sound system, although I'll join many other Jeep owners who don't like the Uconnect radio interface--it is awful. (The ability to control it with your voice--yes, that's nice. But the touchscreen interface is ugly and unintuitive and I will be replacing that screen as soon as a good option comes along from Crutchfield et al).
The leather trim is comfortable, and the cabin interior is really very nice. Very quiet ride compared to our last vehicle, a Chrysler Pacifica. I would highly recommend this vehicle, but think hard before you get one that does NOT have the power liftgage. I miss the power liftgate from our Pacifica, I really do. It's astonishing how many times you don't have a hand free to lift that gate. The Jeep 70th Anniv. does have, at least, a glass top-half window that opens independently of the rest of the gate, which is a nice feature--and one many SUVs do not have.
