Traded a Jeep Liberty for the Commander. No comparison at all. The Commander has a smooth ride, and a nice package of extras without having to go to the Limited Edition. The only down to this vehicle is that the third row seats are there only for occasional use, as there is very little room back there. I must say that I also leave the headrests down (on the third row) or even the third row seats folded completely down or the view out the back glass becomes limited. Overall it was a great price and a nice vehicle.
I rated the 2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 after a full month of road travel and thorough testing of its various features. The comfort of the vehicle is outstanding. In comparing our 2007 Jeep SRT8 and 1998 SS Camaro to the Commander, the Commander ride is comparable to todays Lincoln cars. The driver's seat position is excellent with all buttons and controls easily reachable. The passenger seat provides excellent room for my taller friends. One of my 6'4.5" friends stated that finally he was in a vehicle that did not make him feel claustrophobic. The stadium row seating for the other passengers have received positive comments as well. The performance of the Jeep Commander is good. The pickup is good with all three available engines (3.7L 210Hp, 4.7L 235Hp & 5.7L 330Hp). The only downside is the miles per gallon rating. Where I think the highest attainable MPG is 20. On the upbeat side of performance the 4x4 systems (Quadra Trac I and II) all work well and you have the trail rated Jeep guarantee to ensure that. The quality of the build is great. After 13, 000 miles the Commander has no squeaks and is very sound. One is affected little by wind, which is odd due to the shape of the Commanders design, but is a testament to the overall design to effectively shear wind away from oncoming tractor trailers, storms and etceteras. The rating of five stars for value is derived from the pleasure received while driving the vehicle in relation to the cost of the vehicle. It seems the Jeep Commander delivers on that promise. In conclusion, the 2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 is overall a good value for the money spent. It is easy to drive, it receives complimentary comments for its style and those who have been with me on any long road trips state that it rides well. Having a well tested 4x4 system (I traverse country roads a great deal) makes the Jeep Commander 4x4 a five stars vehicle.
great jeep but it loves its fuel a bit much. roomy, comfortable, easy to drive.
