This SUV is the Jeep Patriot's big brother, with seating for 7 (though 5 of them have to be small if you want to fit 7 comfortably), and the rugged 4 wheel drive system that Jeep is known for. It has a beefy 5.7L Hemi V8, capable of towing your boat, camper, or even a small horse trailer. If you need something with a third row, are a loyal Jeep customer, and have to have something that is capable both on and off road, this is certainly an adequate vehicle. The cons include a woefully undersized fuel tank (though the mileage isn't horrible for the motor size), a lack of interior space for rear passengers - the second row is comfortable enough, but the third row is made only for children, and absolutely no cargo space when using the 3rd row.
We had a Chevy Tahoe for many years and loved it. So, when it came time for a new vehicle, we knew that we wanted used and had to have 3 rows of seats for our big family. We learned that used Chevy Tahoes in our price range are scarce, so we ended up with the Jeep Commander. We really like the vehicle with the exception of 2 things. The gas mileage is a huge disappointment. 12 or 13 MPG is the best that we are getting and we had hoped for much better since the car has a V6 instead of a V8 engine. On that note, the V6 engine is a little lacking in power for that sized vehicle. It feels pretty sluggish at times. Other than that, we love the 3 rows of seats, the convenience of the way that the seats so easily fold down.
I love the Commander and Jeep in general. The ultimate outdoors, trail riding, beach going, weekend camping or ski trip to the lake vehicle out there! My only complaint is the gas mileage, but if you get a newer one...you can get the flex fuel option. Great Vehicle! :)
