We are very happy with our Kia Optima. I will admit, when we purchased it, our most recent vehicle was a 2004, so it had been a while since we got a new car. But it has all the modern bells & whistles, which you would expect on a Toyota or Nissan or anything else. Yet it was very affordable. We love the styling, the smooth acceleration, the feel of the car on the road--altogether very satisfied.
Can't go wrong with Kia Optima

I would recommend this primarily because of the value. The price is in line with cars that have fewer standard features. The styling, appearance and built-in features are more in line with high-end, upscale luxury cars. It has a solid ride, excellent steering and feels very stable on the road.
Don't buy without an extended test drive. Pay attention to the steering.

It is one of many that have a well documented steering problem. It will NOT drive in a straight line - it drifts. It is not a "pull" but the driver must continually make "micro-adjustments" to keep the car in the lane. It is VERY annoying and physically tiring.
