Transmission: Automatic Color:Gray Interior Color: Gray Average Vehicle Review: (0 reviews) I got this car at 80k miles so right off the bat I can't complain about a few things. I didn't get it new so I couldn't maintain it from the start so I don't know how it was handled before I owned it. It is a decent car for the price that will get you where you need to go. It is a bare bones model with basically no features. That being said, it has decent gas mileage being a light 4 cylinder. Repairs are super easy because the engine is very accessible. You MUST replace the timing belt on this car before you drive it away used or EVERY 60k miles or you'll have problems. Also, be gentle with her because these cars are not built tough at all. The engine will run reliably but the car is almost too underpowered. It's just value.

Cons- LOTS of cargo noise, little car gets blinded by everyone's beaming lights, takes a minute to get into driving fast, Car slides bad during winter, and even on Eco gas can still get away from you.

I travel in this car, has enough space for groceries and suitcases. Drives smooth and get easy in parking spaces. Love the car, would not spend more money on bigger car, because I have everything I need in this one.

Transmission: Manual 6 Speed Color:Silver Interior Color: Gray Average Vehicle Review: (4.333 reviews) Its a cute little car. I Have no problems mechanically with it. I purposefully bought the base model and manual thinking I would get the best gas mileage as possible. Going about 75 MPH your RPM's run extremely high. I was bummed i have A/C but that's my own fault. But with all of that and driving on the interstate ( I commute about 99 miles one way to work) I only get about 26 MPG. Plus side, it only costs about 25 to fill up. Definitely don't want to drive it in any kind of snow or sleet. Don't think it would hold up very well. Overall its a good car starter car.

Some people will complain about the lack of power, but I have no problem getting this little car up and going on the highway. Also, what do you expect? It's a little Kia. It does its job and it does it well! So far, I've had no issues with the vehicle and I'm hoping it stays that way.

Transmission: Automatic Color:Silver Interior Color: Gray Average Vehicle Review: (4.333 reviews) It's "cute" - it's "snappy," easy to zip in and out of parking, traffic and that's the only good thing I have to say about the 2009 Kia Rio. What's wrong: horrible and unsafe braking system - do not even think about trying to drive this car in snow/ice or rain. How I know - I was one of the few cars that was fish-tailing all over the interstate when we got a ice and snow storm. You could not apply even the slightest touch to the brake. My ONLY choice was to slam into he stopped car in front of me or, ever-so-lightly, touch the brake to avoid the rear end ad then slide sideways on the iersate (at no time was I going over 15 miles an hour). Yhis occurs because the Rio (at least mine) has very, very graby brakes. It is completely unsafe on ice or snow - maybe even heavy rain - don't know about that yet! Seat options are pathetic, no auto door locks so you have to go around to every door and lock them separately - good luck unlocking the back doors, I didn't think I would miss auto windows- oh yes you do!! Gas mileage isn't as good as one would have thought being such a small stripped down model. Where's the temp indicator? I will never recommed this care to anyone and I am so sad that it was recommended to me and that someone didn't talk me out of it. Cheap, yes - good deal NO!!!!!!

A Good Deal

I've had my 07 Kia Rio 5 for three months now and I will add the same positive remarks as I read before buying this car. I'm on a tight budget, so price was a key factor, but so was performance, quality and style...the Rio 5 has it all! Lets face it, it's a small car with a small engine, but it will get you to top speeds without much effort. My commute is both hwy and city driving, I get about 28 miles to the Gallon. If you drive on bad roads, you will feel every bump, but otherwise it's pretty smooth. The inside has a nice sporty feel, I like having power windows & locks; a feature many economy cars don't have. The back is large enough to hold my bike, which is cool. The only down fall with the car is that it has a poor crash test rating, so my insurance went up a little. For the Rio itself, I give it two thumbs up!
