I bought this car a week ago, a 2007 Kia Spectra EX with 9,000 miles on it. I couldn't wait for it to go through it's first tank of gas so I could fill it up and see if the mileage was as good as they said it was. It was! I drive city to work and took a couple of highway drives just to see how it performs going 70. I'd read a few, very few, so-so reviews on this car and wanted to see how it would perform for me. Man, it was excellent. On the interstate, I was up to speed and going 70 before I knew it. It has some serious power. I was driving a Chevy Capris,a rather large car, and I thought I would lose some pickup, but I was wrong. Anyway, when I finally went through the original tank of gas, I found out I'd gotten nearly 31 miles to the gallon, and it was 95% city driving! I can't get over how this car comes fully loaded. I'd test driven 2007 and 2008 Chevy's and every little thing costs extra. Not on the Kia, power everything. Airbags...geeze, it has at least 6, I'm thinking it has 8 including the curtian airbags. And room, both of my sons are over 6 ft tall and no one is cramped. One son sitting in the front seat has plenty of room to stretch out his long legs while the one sitting behind him said he has plenty of room for his too. If I didn't see it for myself, I'd not believe them. From the outside, looks like a small car, inside...no so much! My kids hook up their ipods (I've not had a chance to use the cd option yet, though it comes standard too) and rock out to this really decent stereo system. It's so much fun to drive. Being use to a big car, I'm having a ball maneuvering my Kia in and around traffic. With it's size, it's pickup, it's power, and it's incredible safety features, it is so much fun to drive! Getting over 30 miles to the gallon, that's just icing on the cake!
The Kia Spectra is a trap. Make sure you have an extended warranty because you will need it. They run fine until about 40K and then...they fall apart. Longevity is not one of the options. My Kia had these problems, which cost me time going back and forth to service it. None of the problems were actually ever fixed. I just traded it to get rid of it once and for all. Gas gauge did not read properly (had 300 miles on a trip and the gauge said full), locks did not function properly (locked out), very loud wind noise from both doors, cutting out on the highway and during idle, random idle at 2000 RPM when in park. So, do yourself a favor. Buy something else.
This wasn't something that I had previously considered until I needed a car now. It looks nice and I am comfortable with having front and side airbags. The mileage is wonderful and the value for the money is good.
