This was the first car I purchased without my parents support. The car makes me proud. It is small, but perfect for the city and gets great gas mileage on the highways. It is great for what it is as an older model. I do not mind having manual doors and windows, though I do wish the car had cruise control and pockets in the back of the driver and passenger seats. Otherwise there is plenty of storage space and room for passengers and a large trunk for all other cargo. It is a great first car and at 100,000+ miles still reliable and running great.
I purchased my Kia at about 2 months ago. Here are my two cents: GAS MILEAGE: I average about 28 mpg mixed city/highway driving. I took it on a 400 mile road trip and it averaged 29 mpg but that was at 80 mph with the A/C running so I cannot complain. COMFORT: The ride is firm and much better than I expected from a car this size, especially on the highway. It does lean a bit in tight corners (highway cloverleaf for example) but it is not a sports car so I cannot expect more. The controls are easy to reach and laid out very logically. The adjustable seat height is a plus! QUALITY: Since I have only owned the car 2 months I cannot make an accurate determination on longevity, but the car seems solidly built. It does not have a cheap feel to it like some of the other cars I considered before buying this Kia. VALUE: You certainly get a lot of car for your money. The My Spectra EX is loaded with power windows, locks and (heated) mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, tilt wheel, and more. I don't think I could have gotten a base model Corolla for what I paid for my loaded Spectra. Time will tell whether or not it will hold up like the Corolla. So far so good! I am definitely please with my purchase and not only would I recommend this car to a friend, I actually have. He was looking for another vehicle to replace his 15 year old 215k mile Volvo. I let him drive mine... and 2 weeks later he got one. He is as pleased as I am. I hope this review helps. It's only my opinion, but that's what this is all about.
I had just moved to Tennessee from California and realized that I needed a car immediately. I had very little time to do the normal car buyer's research. I went to the CarMax dealer and from their great selection I chose the Kia Spectra for one reason: the gas mileage. I live about 15 miles from work, so good gas mileage was important for me. The Kia claimed about 34 mpg, and this is absolutely true. It is better with gas than my other car, a 2009 Honda Civic. I am so happy about this, considering the high gas prices right now. In addition, my little Kia is comfortable, reliable (so far) and it looks good! I definitely recommend this car!
