I drove the Mazdaspeed3 and the Subaru WRX, Subaru WRX STI, and VW GTI. The Mazda may be a little slower than the Subie, but for the comfort and style, plus an actual respectable nav system (except in the 2010 model), I'd take it every time. Don't even waste your time on the GTI: It's gawdy, has less room, and unless you like to look like a Scotsman in plait, has horrible interior design. Plus, its about a full second slower in than the Speed to 60. The Speed retains its value and has a lower price than its competition. I docked one star for performance because of its lack of 4-wheel drive and slower times than the Subie.

The Mazda is a great little car for the money. It runs great, gets very good gas mileage (30+ mpg) and is fun to drive. You can park it anywhere. The seats are very comfortable and the trunk is spacious. This is my third Mazda and they are very reliable, long-running cars. I made a good choice - again.
