Great for road trips, fun for grocery store runs

Sigrid - Edgefield, SC 09/03/2014

It's fun to drive and though it's small (two seats), two people can easily fit duffle bags with clothes etc for ten days into the trunk. I love the retractable hard top (goes up and down in seconds) and the Bose audio system, as well.

Great Mini minivan

Mahapaila - Lawrenceville, Ga 05/16/2011

Good car if you want more room but still want to get over 20mpg. I'm averaging about 25, and longer trips seem to push up the average. Sliding side doors and fold-down seats are great features. Good power considering the 4-cylinder engine and nice styling.

All 5 stars? INCONCEIVABLE!

Nerd Girl - Dallas, TX 10/02/2012

I absolutely love my Mazda5! When I was looking for a new car, I originally wanted a hatchback. My top choice was a Mazda3 but they were difficult to find used, so I had settled on getting a Honda Fit (also hard to find) or a Nissan Versa. As luck would have it, my husband and I walked past a Mazda5 on the lot, and even though it was a little out of our price range, we decided to give it a look. Its super roomy, has room for 6 people or you can easily fold down the back bench and seat 4 people with a ton of cargo space. Technically the Mazda5 is classified as a minivan, but I read one review calling it a microvan, which I think is a perfect description. I describe it to people as a hatchback and a minivan having a baby. However you want to describe it, the Mazda5 doesn't feel like you're driving a van, it really maneuvers like a car. The turning radius is really tight and its a lot of fun to drive for its size. So, lets go over the ratings... Comfort: The front seats are comfy and there's a ton of room. I haven't ridden in the back, but my friends/family that have say its really quiet and nice. Performance: Zoom zoom, baby! Its quiet but has a decent amount of get-up-and-go. I don't have any trouble zipping around on the highways. Its not a sports car by any stretch, but its the nicest van I've ever driven. Quality: No problems as of yet. Its a little harder to judge quality after only a month, but everything is working just fine. Appearance: It really looks like a tall Mazda3, which is what drew me to it in the first place. Its sleek and pretty, the only thing I would change is the color - I didn't want another black car but I couldn't turn this one down! Space: HOLY MOLY I LOVE THE SPACE! The back seats go down so easily, no fighting or fuss, just tug the strap and down they go. I normally keep them down since I rarely even have 3 people in my car. We put my dog in his normal crate in the back with the seats down, no problem. (I have a corgi, he is adorable but nuts in the car. You probably couldn't do this with a large dog but seriously, those guys are usually pretty chill.) I can't wait to go on a road trip with this bad boy, its super duper roomy. Value for the money: I know I got a great deal, which helped make our decision. But I think this car will last us so much longer than a Fit or Versa or even a Mazda3 would have. My husband and I don't have kids yet, but this will definitely last us for up to 2 kids. The middle row is captains chairs, so guess who won't have to hear complaints about "He's on my side! She's touching me!" during trips. That's right, this girl. This car isn't for everyone. If you have more than 2 kids, you won't have enough space for everyone and all their junk. And its not as fuel efficient as a smaller car, which is to be expected. But for a young family, or a couple in the planning process, I think this is an amazing car. Also, did I mention the side doors are sliding doors but don't look like it? Because that's awesome, you don't have to worry about your kids throwing the doors open into someone else's car. I really do love my car. Van. Whatever. If you are looking for a hatchback, this is also another fantastic alternative, especially if you're planning on turning your duo into a trio in the future.
