In terms of style, this car has a nice mix of classic and modern. Good-looking exterior, nice lines. The interior has the fit and finish you would expect from a Mercedes -- though comparison to the luxurious interiors of the top end Mercedes series isn't warranted. If you are looking for a comfortable, mid-size vehicle that's quiet, smooth, handles well, and has good safety features, within the entry-level luxury car niche, this car is an excellent choice. I have the 4Matic model, which has exceptional handling on wet roads and snow. Both the 4-wheel drive and rear wheel drive versions have the electronic stability/traction control. The ride is very quiet; even over 80 mph on the highway, there is little wind or road noise. This car doesn't offer a sporty ride; if you want that, look elsewhere. It's much better suited for someone seeking a controlled, quiet, comfortable ride with the typical German handling. The controls (audio system, etc) are fairly intuitive and quick to learn compared to some other luxury vehicles. The BlueTooth phone integration works well. There are really only a few things about this car that could be better: First, gas mileage is less than optimal in this era of very high gas prices. The car gets about 20 mpg in city driving; about 28 mpg at best on the highway. I accept some of the gas mileage tradeoff for having a 6-cylinder rather than a 4-cylinder, but even for a six cylinder engine of this size, mileage could be about 20% better, in my opinion. Like many luxury cars, Mercedes strongly recommends premium (at least 91 octane) gas -- this also adds to fuel cost. (Using less than premium sometimes isn't fatal, but can lead to engine deposits over time). Second, this may be a minor issue to some people, but these days, an Ipod or .mpg player input somewhere on the dash should be standard. This vehicle has an auxiliary input jack, but it is located in the glove box. This means that if you want to simply plug in an Ipod, you have to close the glove box on the cord. In addition, the sound level is lower than the radio or CD if you use the auxiliary jack in this manner. The solution to this is to have an iPOD integration kit installed (about $650 from a dealer), or the full-blown media system (that includes .mpeg storage, navigation system, traffic monitoring, etc) for about $1800. I am considering after-market solutions, which are available from audio shops for $300-$400; I simply want to be able to access my iPod. Reliability on this model and year has been average to above average, which suggests that Mercedes had made progress since the period of the late 90's to mid 2000's when they were producing cars of below average reliability. So far, so good -- but I still would not take the chance of getting one of these without at least one year remaining on the manufacturer's warranty, just to ensure no major bad surprises... Overall, I am very pleased with this car and I love driving it. I don't think I would buy one brand new -- I don't like the value proposition on new cars, especially in the luxury class -- but I think the value is pretty good if you get a two or three year-old model if it has been well maintained and still within the warranty. I give it 4 stars overall.

I enjoy the look and feel of the car. Fun to drive. Other than an annoying knocking sound, I am very much satisfied. This is my first and will not be my last.
