Practicality & frugality meet reliability
I am the original owner of a 1999 Mercedes Benz E300 Turbodiesel. I also own 2 late model Mercedes E class diesels. For the 1999, the positives, for me, are 30+ mpg, absolute reliability, minimal maintenance requirements, luxury, quality of components and engineering, short turn radius, well balanced chassis, fabulous transmission that still runs like new, excellent high performance handling and stability at ultra high speeds, e.g. 100, 120, 140mph. When sudden high speed evasive maneuvering is necessary, this car handles it with confidence inspiring ease and composure. I do triple digits in this commuter car (very early morning on remote interstate) every day. I'm currently at 322,000 miles. Mobil-1 ESP M oil and filter changes performed by me every 5-7000 miles and the car rarely needs servicing. Biggest complaint: front seats are uncomfortable on long trips without using additional supportive cushion. The car is a joy to drive.
